Union Health Center is seeking a Medical Director in New York City! Background*The Union Health Center (UHC) is an innovative primary and multi-specialty center focused on providing well-coordinated and accessible healthcare.
UHC has been providing care to New Yorkers for over one hundred years, founded by the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union (ILGWU) and the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America (ACWA).
UHC was established to provide affordable and comprehensive healthcare to union members and their families, and has been recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as a Patient Centered Medical Home since 2009.
The center was built around a team-based model that integrates health coaches and serves a patient population that experiences a heavy burden of chronic disease and varying levels of health literacy.
UHC maintains Primary Care PCMH recognition and is certified as an Article 28 facility.*UHC and Mount Sinai Partnership*Since 2018, UHC and Mount Sinai, one of the largest health systems in the U.
S, have collaborated to enhance patient care by creating a medical neighborhood, which provided UHC patients with enhanced access and service within the Mount Sinai network.
Effective April 2021 Mount Sinai will begin to provide management services for UHC acting as a partner to design and deliver value-based health care.
The Union Health Center and Mount Sinai look forward to a growing and strengthened strategic partnership.*Role Summary *The term of appointment of the Medical Director shall be as determined by the Board of Directors of the Union Health Center.
Such clinical responsibilities and privileges as she / he shall enjoy at UHC shall be governed by the same provisions regarding appointments, privileges and hearings as apply to members of the medical staff at UHC. *Position Responsibility : *
- Supervises medical providers and works with the Chief Medical Officer to ensure that primary care providers and specialists adhere to standards of care and overall clinical quality.
- Reports to the Chief Medical Officer and able to perform the activities of the Chief Medical Officer when necessity dictates.
- Perform Performance Evaluations of Clinical Staff including Annual Performance Evaluations, Ongoing Professional Performance Evaluation and if needed, Focused Professional Performance Evaluations
- Engage clinical staff in professional development to ensure clinical staff are maintaining the highest levels of clinical skills and ongoing Maintenance of Certification.
- Coach clinical teams and develop processes to build relationships with members most in need of our services (those at greatest health risk)
- Partner with clinical quality leads to develop and implement clinical protocols to ensure the highest level of patient safety in keeping with all UHC policies and procedures
- Works with clinical quality leads to oversee the Infection Control Program and its initiatives.
- Works with emergency preparedness committee regarding development and implementation of UHC’s disaster preparedness plan.
- Works with clinical quality lead regarding patient’s complaints and incidences and the responses provided.
- Responsible for appointment and re-appointment of medical staff providers.
- Monitors clinical program(s) and aspects of formal back-up or transfer agreements.
- Responsible for organizing Primary Care Providers schedules and works with Administrative and Clinical / Operational teams to monitor provider productivity.
- Complies with the Union Health Center’s policies & procedures related to privacy and security of identifiable patient information (PHI), as explained in the HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act) training.
- Able to maintain a patient panel respective of clinical time. *Method of Appointment : *The Board of Director of the Union Health Center shall appoint the Medical Director upon recommendation from the President of the Board and after concurrence of the affiliates.
- Position Qualifications : *To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

- Active Medical Degree from an accredited university
- Valid New York Medical License required
- Board certified in Family Practice or Internal Medicine
- Minimum 5 years’ experience post board certification
- Have strong interpersonal, oral, written communication, organizational and collaborative skills
- Article 28 and PCMH experience preferred
- Compensation range from $225 to $250K (not including bonuses / incentive compensation or benefits)*Preferred Skills and Qualities : *
- Commitment to working in teams to provide excellent clinical care
- Passion for health care as evidenced by academic pursuits and / or professional experience.
- Experience improving quality of care and operational efficiency in previous roles
- Proficient with electronic health records
