At Houston Methodist the MRITechnologist I position is responsible for completing a variety ofroutine diagnostic MRI procedures to include exams of moderatecomplexity with progression towards exams of higher complexity.

This position provides direct assistance to physicians with alldiagnostic and special MRI procedures. The MRI Technologist Iposition delivers exceptional patient care and adheres to MRI examstandards and guidelines established by governing agencies toensure optimal patient safety and customer service.

This positionis a member of the direct patient careteam.

PEOPLEESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Promotes apositive work environment and contributes to a dynamic team focusedwork unit that actively helps one another to achieve optimaldepartment results.

Collaborates with all members of the patientcare team by actively communicating and reporting pertinent patientcare information and data in a comprehensivemanner.

SERVICEESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

  • Performsdiagnostic MRI procedures to include common and special MRI exams.MRI exams use magnetism radio waves and a computer to produceimages of body structures and gives insight on the chemical makeupof tissues.
  • Proactivelyassesses identifies and responds to the needs of the patient foradjustment or intervention to optimize patient care image qualityand patient experience.

This includes : positioning physiologyprocedure preparation and technical factors. Modifies technicalfactors to achieve desired imaging results and recognizescomplications and limitations associated with certainprocedures.

  • Providesdirect assistance to physicians during diagnostic or special MRIprocedures including assisting with steriletechnique.
  • Providesaccurate explanations and instructions to patients and familymembers at an appropriate level utilizing verbal and nonverbalskills terminology andlanguage.

QUALITY / SAFETYESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Followssafety standards and conducts all imaging procedures accordingly.Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures regularlypractices aseptic techniques and ensures compliance with radiationsafety and infection control procedures.

Complies with job roledepartment and hospital safety standards practices andpolicies.

Reports nearmisses and inputs errors promptly into appropriate hospital patientsafety reporting system to improve processes and identify trends.

Contributes to identification of corrective actions and improvementactivities and contributes to meeting department and hospitaltargets for quality andsafety.

Performs dailyimaging equipment quality control (QC) ensuring all imagingequipment is in safe working order prior to use.

Reports anymalfunctions to management and regularly practices preventivemaintenance procedures; calls for service ifneeded.

Utilizes criticalthinking skills to observe and proactively address patientreactions (i.e. contrast media and medications) or potentialoutcomes and obtains assistance asappropriate.

  • ARRTRRadiologic Technologist Radiographer (ARRT) For 6 months ofsupervised MRI clinical scanning experience OR
  • ARRTNRadiologic Technologist Nuclear Medicine Tech (ARRT) For 6 monthsof supervised MRI clinical scanning experience OR
  • ARRTSONRadiologic Technologist Sonography (ARRT) For 6 months ofsupervised MRI clinical scanning experience OR
  • RDMS RegisteredDiagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) For 6 months of supervisedMRI clinical scanning experience. RDMS certified as an UltrasoundTechnologist OR
  • CNMT CertifiedNuclear Medicine Technologist (NMTCB) For 6 months of supervisedMRI clinical scanning experience AND
  • BLS Basic LifeSupport (AHA)
