Father Edmund A. Walsh, S.J.’s vision was a school that would prepare students for all major forms of foreign representation official and unofficial, governmental and private sector, whether commercial, financial, consular, or diplomatic.

The Assistant Director is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Institute for the Study of International Migration (ISIM) including program administration, faculty support, event management, and communications and outreach, as well as supporting the new Master’s degree in International Migration and Refugees.

Reporting to the ISIM Director and working closely with other program faculty and the SFS Dean’s Office, additional responsibilities include, but are not equal to :

Program Administration

Oversee day-to-day management of ISIM courses and programs, including for the ongoing Certificate in Refugees, Migration and Humanitarian Emergencies as well as the MA in International Migration and Refugees, including managing course scheduling, adjunct hiring, and training.

In coordination with the Director, identify appropriate funding support for the program and assist in grant writing for the program for student and faculty research support and programmatic support.

Work with the SFS Finance team on all financial transactions, providing business purpose, required documentation, and background information to support all program financial transactions.

Participate in preparing the budget and tracking expenses, managing and forecasting operating and student worker expenses.

Manage expense reports for faculty and staff in ISIM, working with the Grant Manager on post-award grant transactions.

Oversee the monthly account reconciliation for non-payroll expenses, negotiating contracts with vendors and working with the SFS Dean’s office to ensure timely submission and approval of contracts.

Manage student employees, working with the SFS HR team to ensure that program recruiting, hiring, training, termination, and payment practices are carried out in accordance with HR policies and procedures.

Prepare supporting documentation for all ISIM academic appointments for adjuncts, visiting, and regular faculty, working with the SFS Director of Faculty Affairs.

Admissions and Recruiting

In coordination with the ISIM director and faculty, manage the admissions process for the new MA in International Migration and Refugees, in close coordination with other SFS, graduate school and GU departments.

Ensure program competitiveness through the development and implementation of recruitment and admissions strategies, including social media outreach and advertisement of scholarships.

Actively recruit and advise applicants on the admission process and program requirement, managing day-to-day communications with prospective students and applicants and connecting them with appropriate resources on campus as needed.

Plan and execute recruiting events, including ISIM-specific information sessions and SFS-wide recruiting events.

Represent the program in Graduate School and GSFS Admissions meetings.

Communications, Outreach, & Faculty Support

Collaborate with ISIM director to build brand, visual identity, and content marketing strategy, working closely with the SFS Communications team.

Direct student assistants to create, maintain, and promote content on the websites and update social media on a daily basis, working closely with SFS Communications on technical issues.

Advance the marketing and recruitment strategy for the MA in International Migration and Refugees, including developing and placing promotional materials.

Develop and publish newsletters and annual reports, coordinating support for faculty with issues related to office space, technology, and classroom needs.

Ensure timely hiring and accurate payroll for faculty research and teaching assistants, maintaining contact databases in a timely manner.

Requirements and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred

At least 3 years of related professional experience in program administration and budget management, preferably in a university setting

Proficiency in technologies related to the functions of the position, including Google apps, MS Office, social media, and marketing

Ability to provide complex and efficient administrative support and prioritize effectively

Excellent interpersonal and written communication with strong orientation to detail, deadlines, professionalism, and client service

Interest in international relations and Admissions experience preferred

Pay Range :

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is :

$47,586.00 - $87,558.13

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
