The Role : Senior Analyst, Middle East and Africa Oil Market

The Team : This role is in the Asia, Middle East, and Africa Oil Team within the Oil Market, Midstream and Downstream (OMD) business line at S&P Global Commodity Insights.

Members of the team interact actively with other analysts in Asia, Middle East, Africa, and around the globe in both short-term and long-term subject areas such as oil demand, trade flow and inventory tracking, crude oil and refined product balances, downstream refining economics and country profile update.

Responsibilities & Impact :

This position will have major responsibilities in analyzing elements affecting the Middle East and Africa oil markets (crude oil, condensate and NGLs, downstream refining, oil trade and prices, petroleum product demand, inventory, and petroleum policies) in the global context, and presenting results in both written reports and client-facing interactions.

The position will also have business development and client retention responsibilities for Asia, Middle East, and Africa.

  • Contribute to short-term research on Middle East and Africa oil refined product demand, trade flow and arbitrage incentive, supply and demand balances via quantitative modeling, qualitative assessment, internal collaboration, and external engagement.
  • Responsible for maintaining and improving models / dashboards / databases to monitor short-term oil market dynamics focusing on gasoline, diesel / gasoil, kerosene / jet, and fuel oil.
  • Responsible for developing short-term oil demand driver model in Africa to forecast oil demand trend more accurately in the region.
  • Contribute to the spotlight reports to assess impacts of any ad-hoc events to regional oil markets and help with other regional deliverables with consistent views.
  • Contribute to deliverables of the long-term analytics and country profile updating.
  • Work closely with Commercial teams to support generating business opportunities of S&P Global Commodity Insights OMD services within Asia, Middle East and Africa regions.
  • Interact actively with customers to answer questions and present oil market outlooks at company and industry events.
  • Contribute to short-term and long-term analytics of Middle East and Africa oil market by quantitative modeling and qualitative assessment.

What We’re Looking For :

Basic Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in refining, economics, engineering, business administration, or similar field
  • Minimum four years of full-time experience in refining analytics, energy industry consulting, investment banking, equity research or equivalent professional experience;

A fundamental understanding of the Middle East and Africa downstream oil industry is preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills and superb in oral and written English. Must be able to effectively present forecasts and supporting materials to clients in regular reports, phone calls, emails, and web / live conferences.
  • Strong ability to identify vital short-term dynamics in oil industry by exploiting data and information with multiple quantitative tools, visualization platforms and qualitative methods.
  • Innovative and strong problem-solving skills with self-starter spirits to streamline processes and identify and implement improvements.
  • Excellent Excel skills and proficiency with other MS applications required (Word and PowerPoint).
  • Successful candidates will be able to work well under tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Strong background in engineering and refining
  • Experience covering the Middle East and Africa oil markets in the global context.
  • Understanding of economics / econometrics / refining modeling (LPs)
  • Experience in modeling and programming languages
  • Arabic and French language capability
