Experience· 1 year acceptable experience in histopathology Required· Hospital Experience PreferredLicenses and Certifications· HT(ASCP) Histotechnician within 90 Days of Hire Required or· HTL(ASCP) Histotechnologist within 90 Days of Hire RequiredWhat You Will Do· Follows laboratory procedure for specimen collection, handling, and processing.

• Follows established protocols for handling unsatisfactory specimens.· Specimen Processing· Surgical Pathology dissection assistance.
• Maintains worksheet, prepare and label tissue cassettes and requisition.· Knows the proper fixation.· Embedding· Orientation of surgical specimen in paraffin.
• Time utilization.· Cuts thin, wrinkle free sections.· Follows protocol for each specimen type and selects appropriate representative sample.
• Operates automated stainer.· Uses manual staining technique.· Performs special stains.· Prepares reagents.· Operates automated coverslipper.
• Follows established protocols for esoteric tests.· Follows established protocols for extradepartmental consults.· Facilitates workflow process.
• Checks outstanding tests list in a timely manner.· Troubleshoots and follows through on outstanding tests which appear to have not been collected / received when expected.
• Protective safety equipment and engineering controls are utilized as required.· Work area is clean and neat.· Patient confidentiality is not compromised.
