Description :
Position Summary : Under supervision, with considerable latitude for independent action or the exercise of independent judgment, is responsible for the analysis, configuration, implementation, and remediation of computer operations and IT Security issues.
Performs related work to improve the overall Information Technology operations.
Reports to : Deputy Director, IT

Key Relationships : The IT Security Analyst collaborates closely with the staff throughout BERS, various divisions within New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) and various City agencies, including OTI, NYC Cyber Command and FISA.
Responsibilities
- Configure, deploy and support deployed servers and PCs with OS such as MS Windows, Windows server 2019 / 2022 and Linux.
- Plan, test, and implement application, data, and system migrations and upgrades with minimal impact on business operations.
Manage and communicate any related system / service impacts and maintenance windows to stakeholders.
- Provision access to Citrix Workspace and ShareFile for BERS staff to support hybrid workload.
- Respond to and resolve support-related service desk calls utilizing Help Desk System, as well as maintaining inventory on all BERS assets.
- Monitor and manage all software patches and updates to all BERS assets.
- Evaluate and remediate any outstanding security issues and system vulnerabilities discovered and reported; collaborates with NYCPS and OTI on efforts.
- Install and configure network equipment from vendors utilizing access portals, cloud integrators, and local consoles.
- Install and configure security controls and monitor the network for unusual activities across various systems.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on analyzing network traffic and performance.
- Research, evaluate and implement software applications and services based on business requirements.
- Use security applications and scanners to monitor BERS environments.
- Collect and analyze logs from various systems.
- Collaborate with internal users and department managers to facilitate technical and non-technical projects requiring technical oversight and to enforce compliance.
- Interface with internal and external auditors for risk assessments and mitigate findings.
- Serve as an IT team member, aiding in Change Management (CM) and Incident Response (IR) teams.
- Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
Qualification Requirements :
Minimum
- A certificate from an accredited technical school (approximately 675 hours) with a specialization in computer operations plus a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and three years of satisfactory, full-time computer operations experience in a large-scale mainframe or multi-tiered computer environment, or three years of satisfactory data communications network experience in a mainframe or multi-tiered computer environment, one year of which must have been in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project; or
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of satisfactory full-time computer operations or data communications network experience as described in 1’ above, one year of which must have been in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project; or
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time computer operations or data communications network experience as described in 1’ above, one year of which must have been in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project; or
- Education and / or experience equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and three years of satisfactory full-time computer operations or data communications network experience as described in "1" above, one year of which must have been in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project.

In addition to meeting the minimum requirements, individuals must have two additional years of the experience described in "1" above
Preferred
- 2 or more years of experience with Windows server installation, configuration, update, and maintenance.
- 2 or more years of experience with cybersecurity research, analysis, and remediation.
- Experience with technical writing and reporting skills.
- SQL Query knowledge.
- Strong networking, OS, and application security knowledge.
- Experience in security tools such as Rapid 7, CrowdStrike and KnowBe4.
- MCSE certification.
- Security+ certification.
- CCNA certification.
- Help desk experience.
Salary : $103,756 - $109,347
Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
