The Director, Labor & Employee Relations is responsible for the development and execution of a proactive employee and labor relations strategy to support a positive work environment across the Electronic Systems business segment at BAE Systems, Inc. The role will lead a team of Labor and Employee Relations professionals across multiple bargained and non-bargained sites in the United States and report directly to the Director II, Human Resources. This position is a hybrid role based at any of our major Electronic Systems locations : Nashua, NH (and surrounding area); Cedar Rapids, IA; Huntsville, AL; Austin, TX; Fort Wayne, IN. Because this role involves a combination of collaborative / in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite and remotely.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Lead the Labor Relations function through the design, planning and execution of the negotiation process to ensure best in class CBA, negotiations
  • Develop and set the CBA Labor Relations team negotiation standards
  • Drive labor education and awareness for the business leadership team and the HR teams
  • Strategic planning for the Labor Relations function across multiple sites
  • Standardization and centralization of labor processes for the Labor Relations function
  • Continuous improvement of process, performance measurement and coaching, reporting and analytics for the Labor Relations department
  • Partnership with Employee Relations Director and HR Business Partner Directors to develop a one team, HR solution for Labor Relations support
  • Communications : Design and deliver, standard templates, messaging, rhythm and escalations for Labor Relations across the sector
  • Facilitate the transformation, and lead change management, of LR / ER service delivery from a reactive to a proactive model.
  • Develop and implement plans that promote positive employee relations by supporting HR professionals and people leaders in executing retention and engagement strategies; driving performance management; consistent policy application; fostering and reinvigorating culture; and driving other HR-related initiatives.
  • Provide guidance, direction, and coaching to leadership when addressing employee disputes, investigations, and maintaining a positive work environment; assess performance, provide feedback, and actively develop talent.
  • Build strong partnerships with the broader HR team, management and union leadership through collaboration and the resolution of employee relations issues and grievances.
  • Partner with Legal and subject matter experts to facilitate training on employee relations topics.
  • Manage a team of Labor & Employee Relations professionals that work together, leveraging best practices and providing a consistent employee experience. Provide guidance, direction, and coaching; assess performance, provide feedback, and actively develop talent.
  • Guide and mentor the use of analytics, including employee and labor relations trends, to identify and implement proactive engagement with the business.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills :

  • Bachelor's Degree and 12+ years of relevant experience OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10+ years of relevant experience OR in absence of a degree, 14+ years of relevant experience is required.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 25%.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. BAE Systems, Inc. will not offer sponsorship for this position.

  • Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills :

  • Experience in an HR Business Partner or Employee & Labor Relations leadership role supporting a union workforce in excess of $3B in annual sales.
  • Experience interpreting and negotiating collective bargaining agreements.
  • Experience supporting a union environment navigating complex grievances, MOU's and the business & union interface
  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • This is a hybrid position with a mix of on-site, remote & travel presence.
  • Proven experience serving as a coach to senior leaders for their organization on HR matters relating to organizational strategies and business imperatives.
  • Business acumen, be innovative, adapt well to change and work collaboratively with strategic influence to drive initiatives across a matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrated high Say / Do ratio in your work product : The ability to identify, define, design, implement and execute, process, procedure and practice for assigned tasks, independently as the SME, with little guidance.
  • Deep knowledge of HR fundamentals
  • Ability to develop and present senior level leaders with data-driven solutions that will effectively advance business strategies and drive change throughout their organizations.
  • Analytical skills to draw appropriate conclusions from data, anticipating second and third order of effects when making recommendations.
  • Pay Information :

    Full-Time Salary Range : $135556 - $230444 Please note : This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to : business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
