Description

The Senior Project Engineer will design, engineer, and develop innovative mechanical and electromechanical products in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Hands on engineering of new products from concept to production with high level of ownership and personal accountability
  • Create CAD designs using SolidWorks, and complete 3D models and generate detailed 2D drawings of new products
  • Perform the appropriate tolerance analysis to ensure success in high volume manufacturing
  • Design for manufacturing
  • Drive engineering aspects of product development process such as prototyping, test plans, design validation, problem solving, tooling and manufacturing process validation
  • Work across functions including Electrical Engineering, Industrial Design, Product Marketing, Manufacturing, and Quality to develop product specifications and ensure product meets aligned requirements
  • Execute multiple projects simultaneously to meet all committed deliverables and project deadlines and report status clearly and accurately
  • Participate in design reviews and brainstorming sessions cross-functionally
  • Collaborate with Industrial Design team to optimize form, fit, function, while considering design for manufacturing, and meeting cost and schedule targets for the project
  • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing engineers to incorporate design for manufacturing feedback and design for cost considerations
  • Manage formal engineering documentation release process for new designs and ECR’s with the goal of clear, unambiguous communication of the design intent with suppliers
  • Review tool and part quotes, provide feedback and recommendations on supplier selection as needed
  • Develop comprehensive design qualification test with Quality team on manufacturing in process quality control plans and quality audit plans
  • Support estimation of engineering time and effort requirements to achieve design changes and product line extensions
  • Manage engineering changes from request (ECR’s) through design, testing and implementation to ensure that effective changes are quickly and appropriately validated and implemented
  • Utilize PDM and PLM systems to manage CAD & other electronic files
  • Domestic and foreign travel as required for meetings with clients, stakeholders, vendors, or supporting engineering sample builds and new product mass production

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • BSME degree required, MSME a plus
  • 7+ years of relevant mechanical system design and development experience.
  • Project management experience a plus
  • Proclivity for small form factor, elegant designs for high volume applications.
  • Skilled in parametric design in 3D solid modeling and surfacing, preferably Solid Works, master modeling experience a plus
  • Demonstrated emphasis on accomplishments and productivity to get things done
  • Extensive experience and understanding of current techniques for design and manufacture of plastic parts, metal forming, casting and electro-mechanical packaging
  • Phase gate product development experience
  • Experience working with various manufacturing processes and Asian Suppliers
  • Openness to travel to China as needed
  • Operates with a sense of initiative, to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment is crucial
  • Persuasive, encouraging, positive approach to collaboration, overall strong interpersonal skills with a proactive mindset of pushing information to team members and management as needed
  • High level of flexibility and ability to align quickly and move programs forward at calculated risk
  • Strong, concise written and oral communications with both internal and external customers and co-workers
