Starbucks Coffee Company is seeking a store design manager supporting our China mainland market. This role can be fully remote but must be available to collaborate with USA based partners on Pacific Standard Time.

This is a fast paced, design forward role, executing over 25 new store builds per year. Gain international experience in our largest growth market and build a resume with Fortune’s #1 brand in food and beverage.

Lead the development and implementation of the vision for Starbucks brand, creative objectives, and design process to enhance the Starbucks experience for the consumer, while innovating best-in-class, meaningful design.

As a manager, design, you will

  • Act as the primary liaison with the construction, real estate, operations teams in China, and ensure close relationships are maintained.
  • Identify and communicate key responsibilities and practices to ensure the immediate team of direct reports promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
  • Manage creative team by providing coaching, direction, and leadership development in order to achieve partner, business and customer results.
  • Formulate and implement creative and design objectives that meet company and business unit strategy. Provides creative direction and leadership for all design projects for assigned clients.
  • Guide internal and external design teams in developing initial concepts and participates in design work when appropriate.
  • Provide added value to the strategic design discussion with clients based on an understanding of their business goals.
  • Collaborate with management team to evolve overall visual strategy.
  • Consult with cross-functional teams on cost-saving opportunities and implements appropriate changes.
  • Execute department plans to meet company targets for budgets, project schedules and deadlines, as well as departmental guidelines.
  • Prepare, communicate, and educate client groups and team on changes in policies and practices within the organization.
  • Prioritize and communicate department objectives to team.
  • Set and maintain the professional standards required to meet business unit / department and company objectives.
  • Challenge and inspire partners to achieve business results.
  • Conduct and ensure the completion of performance reviews.
  • Ensure partners adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
  • Oversee training and development of partners directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.

We’d Love To Hear From People With

  • Experience managing projects and design teams in a creative environment including internals as well as coordinating with consultants (7+ years)
  • Professional experience with a design firm, advertising agency, or in-house creative department (6+ years)
  • Experience in leading and managing design efforts and documentation.
  • Excellent at multi-tasking, understanding complex project details while moving teams and outcomes forward.
  • Demonstrates a high level of initiative and proactiveness in mitigating risks and recognizing resolutions.
  • Communication skills, both to clients, consultants, and colleagues
  • Knowledge of current digital production tools : Enscape, Adobe Creative Suite, REVIT a must
  • Familiarity with retail / food and beverage / hospitality preferred but not mandatory.
  • Mandarin a bonus but not mandatory
  • Licensure not required.
  • Ability to travel to China once a year and Seattle headquarters quarterly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Design or equivalent experience in a creative firm, advertising agency, or in-house creative department
  • An online portfolio or samples of work demonstrating experience creating visual / graphic design solutions
  • Ability to foster teamwork among diverse groups and disciplines
  • Ability to plan and manage schedules for multiple tasks
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
  • Knowledge of and ability to articulate creative development processes
  • Creative problem-solving, strategic thinking skills
  • Able to spark creative thinking in team and others to challenge the status quo
  • Ability to lead effective brainstorming sessions to spark big idea thinking
