Job Description
The Business Development Manager will be responsible for managing and coordinating business development in the energy efficiency, renewable energy and transportation sectors and assuring that proposals and marketing are strategic and align with our long term business development goals.
This candidate will oversee growing business development efforts company-wide, taking over from a current Acting Business Development Manager.
Activities will include managing the day to day activities of the Proposal Coordinator, working with the Executive team and capture managers to identify and prioritize capture efforts and capture relations management.
The BD Manager will work closely with the Proposal Coordinator and Executive management to streamline the capture process.
The candidate will also collect input from capture managers and operations support staff.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
- Supervise the activities of the Proposal coordinator and coordinate activities of any part time and temporary Business Development and Marketing staff
- Report BD activities regularly to the Executive Team
- Work with Executive Team and Program Directors to seek and identify business opportunities; research and gather information on potential clients and projects
- Establish and develop pursuit planning process. Work with appropriate team members to create and execute a winning strategy to secure strategic bids;
develop winning approach and differentiators with Capture leads.
- Establish a strong professional network in the energy space. Develop and maintain a network of corporate, industry, government, municipal, and community contacts to keep abreast of industry, client, and competitor activity.
- Build relationships with clients, teaming partners, and community influencers inside and outside the firm. Meet with new / existing clients to discover pursuit information and details
- Analyze research data related to clients; competitors; past, current, and prospective markets;
- Monitor legislative and / or regulatory activities that could affect the need for services
- Assist Executive team in developing and driving strategic initiatives forward
- Participate in go / no-go decisions; assess each potential pursuit in regard to its ability to meet the firm’s strategic positioning and goals
- Oversee and coordinate a CRM through a developed content management systems; use this system to track business development opportunities.
- Review and provide guidance to marketing team on updated marketing content to ensure it adequately supports the Energetics Strategic BD activities
- Participate in color team and mock panel reviews (as applicable)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (INCLUDES EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, COMPETENCIES), ETC.) :
- Minimum 6 years of work experience and 4 years of experience in business development
- Bachelor's degree in business, marketing or related discipline.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent skills with digital systems including Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams) and other proposal writing tools.
- Experience with business development, proposal development and CRM automation software and emerging digital tools.
- Strong time management and prioritization skills.
- Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
- Strategic and critical thinking, problem-solving skills
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS (INCLUDES PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, COMPETENCIES), ETC.) :
- Knowledge of consulting and the clean energy market and technologies
- 7 or more years of related business development experience
- MBA or related advanced degree
OTHER (INCLUDE LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, SECURITY CLEARANCE, TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS, ETC.) :
- Occasional travel to attend conferences or meet with clients
