The Board of Directors of The Gulf Beach Arts Center, Inc., (Beach Art Center) is seeking a multi-talented, big picture person to lead the Beach Art Center into the future and further our vision as The community’s premiere destination for the creative arts.
Founded as a community-based grassroots arts center nearly fifty years ago, in the beautiful Gulf Coast city of Indian Rocks Beach, Florida, the Beach Arts Center has evolved over time into an excellent teaching center that offers a wide variety of classes, offers regular gallery showings, oversees an artisans’ gift shop, and other arts-related activities.
This newly revised position offers an exciting opportunity, together with the Board of Directors, to innovate and manage a growing organization.
The Executive Director reports directly to the President of the Board and will demonstrate flexibility in working with a strong and diverse committee structure to implement the vision and mission of the BAC.
The ED leads development and revenue raising activities to ensure the BAC’s long-term financial viability and its service to the community.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Management and Planning
- Oversees, and is accountable for, the total operations of the BAC including budgeting, development, education, finance, marketing, daily activities and other duties as designed
- Recruits, supervises and evaluates staff and oversees volunteer management
- Creates and maintains organizational procedures for staff and day-to day operations
- Collaboration with Board of Directors on strategic planning activities for organizational advancement
- Develops annual operating plan to support the goals in the BAC’s strategic plan
- Promotes a culture that reflects the BAC’s values and bylaws
- Overall stewardship of the organization within the community; cultivating, maintaining and building valuable relationships
Programmatic Planning & Quality Assurance
- Oversees high-quality annual programming to ensure ongoing new artist outreach, programming design / curriculum development, master calendar of activities preparation, program evaluation, marketing, etc.
- Maintains awareness of current and future trends, in order to ensure continuous, cutting-edge activities
- Collects data and establishes reporting mechanisms (dashboard) to analyze programs and gather feedback from customers ensuring program success
Fiscal Management, Financial Planning and Development
- Collaborates with designated BOD members to develop and present an annual operating budget to the full Board for review and oversees day-to-day financial operations
- Creates and executes short and long-term development plans including individual donors, foundations, public sources, private sector and events in partnership with the Development Committee Chairperson
- Provides leadership for soliciting charitable funds and donor relations in collaboration with BOD members and volunteers
- Works actively to increase membership and sets annual goals for same
- Oversees and pursues grants and new sources of revenue to enhance the organization’s operating and capital funds
- Works with the BOD to ensure the BAC’s advancement and long-term financial stability while maintaining consistent communication with Board Finance Chair & Board At-Large on all fiscal developments
- Develops and executes a transformational capital campaign including an endowment in partnership with the Board
Community Partnerships
- Possesses awareness of the artistic community and a willingness to cultivate relationships with art centers locally, statewide and nationally
- Serves as the primary representative for the BAC and seeks to establish a positive presence within the community in partnership with the Board President
- Acts as a liaison between the BAC and local, County and State officials, plus engages the community (businesses & residents) to build relationships, champion programs and enhance long-term viability
- Seeks out partnerships and works cooperatively with other arts organizations to develop new audiences and supporters
- Solicits new Board candidates, general members, and others who would potentially support BAC activities
- Ensures the BAC’s mission, vision, goals, and activities are consistently communicated effectively
Board / Staff Collaboration
- Serves as an ex-officio member of the BOD and all related committees, as needed or requested
- Promotes a collaborative work relationship between Board members and staff, and encourages teamwork
- Supports the operations and administration of the BOD by advising, informing and providing necessary reports in a timely manner
- Advises the BOD on the development of policies and strategic initiatives that will strengthen the BAC
Personal Qualities & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree Required, 5-10 years of experience in a non-profit position with proven success
- Passion for the arts and the future of the BAC
- Experienced leader, problem-solver and fiscal steward that values a collaborative management style
- Exhibits a can do, positive attitude and maintains a warm and welcoming organizational culture
- Possesses a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all facets of an organization
- Highly effective verbal and written communicator internally and externally; able to build support and consensus by listening well and synthesizing information clearly to explain objectives;
ability to identify and capitalize on public relations / marketing opportunities as they arise
- Experienced fundraiser with a track record of closing major gifts from individual donors, foundations, government sources, and corporations
- Strong interpersonal skills with high emotional intelligence and experience leading, collaborating and valuing others’ work and ideas
- Ability to think in strategic, analytical, and political ways, particularly about issues affecting the creative arts; understanding of the public policy process
- Entrepreneurial; self-starter willing to embrace change and innovation
