Travel : Up to 30% of time both in development and fragile contexts

Estimated Salary Range : $140,000.00 to $180,000.00

The Job

World Vision is looking for a Vice President of Humanitarian and Emergency Affairs (HEA) to provide leadership to support World Vision’s HEA portfolio.

S / he will provide leadership to World Vision U.S. engagement around rapid onset and complex emergencies, coordinating strategy development, resource mobilization and project management efforts;

donor (public and private) and partner networking; innovation, and provision of technical assistance for field operations.

This hire will be an experienced leader with expertise and risk management experience in the humanitarian context.

Your Responsibilities Will Include :

Faith-Based Leadership

  • Keep Christ central in individual and corporate life. Actively participate in and contribute to the spiritual disciplines of the organization (Christian conduct, chapel, prayer, worship, devotions, and leadership of devotions).
  • Incorporate WV Core Values into decisions within the scope of role.
  • Demonstrates strong Christian leadership capabilities; mentors others spiritually.

HEA Leadership

  • Coordinate and collaborate with leaders across teams to ensure that WVUS is fully engaged with the WV Partnership on disaster management issues and responses ensuring alignment with overall organizational goals.
  • Responsible for public donor segment resource mobilization and strategic support to private fundraising efforts to ensure sufficient HEA related resources are raised to support WVUS and WVI Partnership priorities.
  • Lead on the HEA team’s strategy development / engagement within the wider WVUS IPG strategy development process.
  • Fully responsible for developing annual HEA team plans and operational budgets.
  • For disaster responses, support the external engagement efforts of media, communications, fundraising, and advocacy colleagues with WVUS;

speak externally and to media outlets when requested.

Recruit, performance manage, train, counsel, and recommend salary increases and promotions for those under direct supervision.

Particular attention should be given to ensuring team members have manageable portfolios, overall team health, and individual professional development opportunities.

  • Coordinate with technical specialists from across the programs group in support of humanitarian and emergency affairs priorities.
  • Manage strategic reserves to facilitate rapid response to prioritized emergencies, sustained engagement with neglected emergencies, and support capacity building and strategic preparedness.
  • Represent WVUS on Partnership Response Oversight (PRO) meetings for complex / large responses, and either represent or delegate team members for involvement in Disaster Declaration Group (DDG) meetings for new responses.
  • Be a thought-leader in the wider humanitarian community in the US.
  • Advise in the development of national, regional, and global HEA strategies.
  • Serve on the WV IPG Leadership Team, led by the SVP for International Programs.

Relationships Builder

  • Serve as the primary World Vision U.S.' representative to the US Government, USAID, Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA), State Department’s Bureau for Population, Refugees and Migration (PRM), Congress and the humanitarian assistance community.
  • Engage with donors related to the management of funding of humanitarian aid programs and initiatives : Government donor institutions (primarily BHA and PRM), foundations (e.

g. Gates), United Nations Humanitarian Organizations (primarily World Food Program (WFP) and the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA)), private individual and corporate donors.

  • Network with various coalitions (e.g., Interaction, USGLC, Humanitarian Directors’ Forum, etc.), other humanitarian / peer NGOs and working groups focused on humanitarian policy.
  • Lead World Vision U.S.' operational engagement with the World Vision International network’s HEA community of practice.

Participate in the management of global emergency preparedness and response fund.

Education and Experience :

  • Requires fifteen years of increasingly more responsible leadership positions in an international context, preferably in various geographical areas and extensive work experience in a humanitarian emergency context.
  • Master's degree in relevant field, strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree, required.

Additional Skills We Are Interested In :

  • Previous travel and work experience in developing and fragile contexts.
  • An understanding of U.S. Government funding and donor funding.
  • Additional languages a plus.

Salary Range & Benefits :

  • WVUS Pay Grade Level : 240
  • Estimated Salary Range : $140,000.00 to $180,000.00
  • The full earning capabilities for this role is $127,895.00 to $217,768.00
  • This range applies to locations with a market similar to our Washington D.C. A different range may apply based on your work location.
  • Job offers are based on relevant qualifications and pay equity.
