Senior IP Network Engineer
Summary / Objective
AURA is looking for a talented Senior IP Network Engineer to support the development and operations of AURA’s nationwide telecommunications network.
Working within a small team you will serve as a subject matter expert in IP Networking. The successful candidate will be an innovative self-starter who is passionate about providing the best customer experience and is obsessed with data-driven decision making.

As a Senior IP Network Engineer, you will lead the development of AURA’s private, nation-wide IP network. You will work with stakeholders across the core team to develop and document proposals for the nationwide IP network.
You will describe and quantify the tradeoffs of differing implementation choices, and then deploy the most appropriate solution.
You will lead the management, maintenance, and upgrades of this network, raising the bar for security and performance. You will integrate on-prem network solutions with AURA’s cloud-based networks, building a hybrid WAN.
You will act as a networking technical expert, help mentor colleagues in networking technologies and provide design review feedback.
Primary Job Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor internal / external SLIs, SLOs, SLAs for developed solutions
- Lead incident management, troubleshoot distributed systems, and blameless postmortems
- Manage network upgrades, patching, testing, and validation
- Design DNS architecture for distributed networks, preferably including hybrid systems using AWS (Amazon Web Services), Route53
- Define and implement networking solutions like Software Defined Networking and Multi-cast routing.
- Work on continuous integration, configuration management, building optimization, building automation, and deployment
- JIRA utilization, quarterly planning, sprint planning
- Coordination with Product Owners and Project Managers to ensure alignment of business objectives
- Writing technical documentation, including call flows, network diagrams, technical designs
- Administer policies- FCAPS / OAMP
- Develop end-to-end IP architecture
- Work with Product Owners and colleagues to lead utilization and demand forecasting
Competencies, Skills, Abilities, Qualifications
- Familiarity with different network architectures including MPLS, WAN, LAN, SD-WAN, SD-Branch, BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, L3 switching, routing / framing / encapsulation, SDN
- Hands-on configuration management experience
- Working knowledge of scripting and automation languages (Python, Bash, and similar)
- Working knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, and similar) and integrating those tools into automated pipelines (Jenkins, TeamCity, GitHub Actions, and similar)
- Expertise using JIRA, Confluence
- IoT experience
- Aviation experience
Required Education and Experience
- BS in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience
- Prior experience as a professional network engineer

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, with core office hours of 9 : 00 am 6 : 00 pm, with flexibility.
Ability to work extended hours and weekends as an on-call engineer
Travel
This position requires domestic travel for AURA’s all-staff quarterly planning meetings and may also require some domestic travel based on business needs.
