Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the supervision of the Director of Progressive Care, the NSMS Nurse Manager shares 24-hour accountability and additional responsibility for the effective and efficient operation of the Neurosurgical Medical Surgical department.

Functions will be performed in accordance with the nurse practitioner in a manner consistent with the mission and goals of the organization.

  • Assures quality of care through compliance with departmental policies, hospital and external regulatory agency guidelines.
  • Functions effectively as an interdisciplinary team member.
  • Accepts responsibility for assurance that quality patient care is provided consistently according to hospital and departmental standards and policies / procedures.
  • Accepts accountability and responsibility for achievement of operational and capital budget goals.
  • Performs hourly rounding and responds promptly to call lights and patient requests. Strives to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.
  • Follows patient and employee safety / security policies and protocols, including hand hygiene, use of universal precautions, use of personal protective equipment, and adherence to isolation procedures.
  • Uses job knowledge and proficiency of skills to successfully assist in orientation of new employees.
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by taking ownership of time management, decreasing waste of time and / or supplies, and promoting cost effectiveness while maintaining patient safety and quality of care.

What qualifications you will need :

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE :

  • Graduate of an accredited professional School of Nursing with a Bachelor in Science of Nursing (BSN).
  • 3 5 years’ experience in ICU or Neurological unit.
  • Clinical practice within 2-5 years.
  • Current clinical practice in area of expertise.

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATIONS :

  • Current RN licensure by the State of Texas or from a Compact State if you declare the Compact State your Primary State of Residence.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support.
