POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide support to clients temporarily residing on the Crisis Stabilization Unit through Rehabilitation and Recovery activities that promote mental health and substance use recovery, stability, and well-being.
Utilize Trauma Informed Care approach to support healing in a safe, stigma-free environment with compassion for all people
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assists in facilitation and client engagement for mental health and substance use focused groups.
- Plans and facilitates psychoeducational activities with clients.
- Works individually with clients on coping skills, self-advocacy, housing issues, and activities of daily living.
- Provides support and problem solving assistance to clients with mental illness and substance use disorders in a variety of settings.
- Supports and reinforces following of client's Individual Service Plan.
- Act as liaison and advocate between clients and program staff.
- Have basic computer skills and complete all necessary documentation to service delivery.
- Reliable transportation and ability to transport clients in the community.
- Attends all trainings and staff meetings as required
- Obtains and maintains certification as an Ohio Peer Recovery Supporter.
- Reacts to change and stress productively.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
- Gets along with others and works as a team.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Employee must have some knowledge, through personally lived experience and recovery and / or training, of mental health and substance use disorders.
Ability to assist clients with defining their recovery goals, and developing the skills and knowledge needed for the client's stabilization and recovery.
Must have good oral and written communication skills and ability to resolve conflict in working with community agencies, multidisciplinary teams and in interacting with the clients on the CSU.
In order to perform the essential functions of this job, after an orientation period, the employee must possess the following : a working knowledge of Nord Center Policy and Procedures, including sensitivity and adherence to clients rights, confidentiality, and health and safety issues.
Must exhibit sensitivity to different cultures, utilize a Trauma Informed approach, and be Safe Zone trained. Bilingual (English / Spanish speaking) is a plus.
WORKING CONDITIONS
A significant part of the work is performed in a residential setting, a part of the work may include transporting clients to appointments in the community.
The individual must be able to successfully interact and navigate in all types of facilities and weather conditions, as needed.
This includes being able to walk, climb stairs, navigate changing surface conditions including wet, slippery, and icy grounds, and function in the proximity of electrical appliances, open flames and in areas with poor air quality including potentially smoke-filled rooms.
This individual may periodically be required to lift and / or carry up to 10 pounds. Must be able to physically interact with client and others in emergency situations to prevent harm to client and others utilizing verbal crisis intervention techniques.
The individual in this position must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
Shifts can be part-time or full-time. Shifts needing covered are 930am-6pm and 4-9pm daily.
REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma / GED.
- Have knowledge of mental health and substance use through personally lived experience and recovery and / or training.
- Demonstrated understanding of the principles of recovery and resiliency.
- Ohio Certified as a Peer Recovery Supporter or successful completion of Ohio Certified Peer Recovery Supporter training program within one year of employment.
- Reliable personal transportation, with a current valid and non-restricted Ohio Driver's License with less than six points and State-required insurance.
