Engineering Team Lead Core Products

The following information provides an overview of the skills, qualities, and qualifications needed for this role.

Summary :

As Engineering Team Lead, you will be leading a team of high-performance, fast-paced engineers and designers. You and your team will work collaboratively and independently with Sales, Manufacturing, Quality, Safety, Purchasing and others who are responsible for the design, support and manufacturing of roof curbs, curb adapters, and other associated products.

You will be responsible for leading all engineering functions that support the production of existing products and / or the development and implementation of new products from existing or proven technologies and designs.

In this role, you will ensure that the information Core Products Engineering provides to its internal and external customers is Accurate, Clear, Complete, Correct, Concise and Timely.

Responsibilities :

  • Promote the Excellent Customer Service philosophy throughout your team and the company.
  • Lead a team within the Engineering Department that may consist of Engineers, Designers, Aides and / or interns to design curb and curb adapter products, and to deliver all necessary documentation to Manufacturing in a timely manner so they can meet the production schedule.
  • Lead the Core Products Engineering Team to provide Sales submittal drawings and other information needed for them to quote jobs and obtain business.
  • Coordinate with other Engineering Teams and other departments to complete their tasks as related to assigned projects.
  • Mentor engineers in technical and professional development.
  • Perform periodic reviews of Team projects with Sales, Manufacturing, Quality, Safety, Accounting and others to discuss progress and solicit input.
  • Has complete understanding of job technical knowledge.
  • Capable of performing any size project from start to finish with little or no supervision.
  • Coach team members to help them improve their skills.
  • Review team members' work to ensure the quality of their work.
  • Supervise team members to ensure compliance to all work processes.
  • Be the subject matter expert for your team's responsibilities.
  • Create and / or Manage ERP system data as assigned.
  • Assist in system analysis, design analysis, development, and testing processes.
  • Lead the Team in the performance of the following functions :
  • Meeting budgets, schedules and deadlines.
  • Work with stakeholders to define product / project / process requirements and establish roadmaps.
  • Lead cross-functional teams where needed to accomplish job responsibilities.
  • Participate in the process of generating new ideas for products and services that align with the company's goals and growth strategy.
  • Create clear and effective technical specifications for the product or service (product / project documentation deliverables).
  • Work with the Business Technology, Sales and Manufacturing organizations to maintain existing and / or implement new product specifications.
  • Work with the Value Analysis / Value Engineering Team to reduce the cost of KCC products without reducing value.

  • Performs additional duties as assigned by your supervisor.
  • Adheres to safety standards at all times.

Qualifications :

  • Must have a passion for leading people and solving problems within your department and with other departments within the company.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with SolidWorks.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong customer focus.
  • Strong hands-on / mechanical aptitude.
  • Wholistic view of systems and their interdependencies.
  • Strong decision making, organizational and analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to overcome unforeseen obstacles.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or equivalent work experience in a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience, and the ability to lead others.
  • Creative thinker and problem solver, able to distill complex problems down to actionable items with sustainable solutions.
  • Deep and broad knowledge of current and emerging technologies that affect the business.
  • Expert on KCC’s product features and functions, design philosophy and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience leading the design, implementation, and troubleshooting of major portions of a manufacturing and production process.
  • Able to develop a vision for the technical future of KCC and the strategies to implement the vision.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft products.
  • Above average verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.

Safety / Physical Requirements :

  • This position requires the incumbent’s presence onsite in the plant / in the office for a minimum of 40 hours per week.
  • Incumbent must be able to access manufacturing and assembly areas on the shop floor in order to inspect products, investigate problems and / or potential solutions to problems, and to prove out potential solutions to problems.
  • Capable of lifting / moving parts weighing 50 lbs. or less.
  • Must pass background check and drug test.
  • Requires bending, stooping and standing.
  • Must be able to stand from six (6) to eight (8) hours per day. (Overtime may extend the time period.)
  • Good visual and spatial perception.
