Looking for a Temporary Legal Assistant to in a Workers' Compensation Division.
This is a 6-month full-time assignment, Monday - Friday. Hourly rate is : $22.00
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : The Legal Assistant will work closely with Workers’ Compensation attorneys and claims examiners.
- The Legal Assistant will be responsible for providing direction to the support staff to schedule depositions and applicants’ medical examinations;
- conducting research on systems such as Westlaw; rating medical reports and making settlement recommendations; attending Appeals Board hearings, as necessary;
- screening awards from the Appeals Board to determine whether to appeal or process for payment; responsible for reviewing new and existing claims for eligibility and potential fraud;
and other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS : Workers' Compensation experience.
The legal assistant position requires at least six months of legal administrative experience which requires a thorough knowledge of legal procedures and terminology and independent judgment in analyzing, interpreting and reviewing legal documents;
This position also requires a person who is self-motivated, learns quickly, can exercise independent judgment and work with a minimum of supervision.
The applicant must also be able to work well with other employees of this office and personnel from other agencies, as well as members of the public.
