Responsibilities

The Nurse Manager is a registered nurse responsible for the clinical, administrative and financial functions of the department.

He / she implements nursing process in the care of the surgical patient.

A. JOB KNOWLEDGE

1. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of leadership within the framework of planning, directing,

coordinating and providing / improving the delivery of services to customers BBP

2. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the vision, mission and values of the organization

3. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the concepts and structure of organizational

Performance Improvement

  • a. identifies measurable goals
  • b. prescribes actions to facilitate goal achievement
  • c. initiates patient teaching and discharge planning
  • d. updates the plan of care based on continuing assessment and change

in patient status, (i. e., problems related to diagnostic, pre-op or post-op state of hospitalization)

e. communicates and documents the effectiveness of medical / nursing interventions and progress

toward goal achievement to the physician or other health team member, patient and family via

verbal and written mechanisms (i. e., shift report, nurses notes, Care Plan)

4. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of service satisfaction approach to customer service

a. attends and / or is responsible for all information presented at unit level (staff meetings,

communication book memos)

  • b. willingly assists with orientation of all categories of nursing personnel
  • c. presents, as requested, in-service at the unit level per year
  • d. identifies and seeks opportunities to advance his / her knowledge base (i. e., certification in

specialty, professional organization tracts, clinical advancement such as ACLS instructor, or

credentialing); reads appropriate nursing journals

e. keeps abreast of legal considerations (permits, consent for treatment) and assumes responsibility

for self

5. Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of the nursing process as it relates to the surgical patient

6. Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the principles of management

  • a. performs independent problem solving
  • b. makes decisions logically and deliberately
  • c. performs actions that demonstrate accountability
  • d. exercises safe judgment in decision making
  • e. practices within legal and ethical guidelines
  • f. uses a series of sequential, interdependent decisions concerning the stages in

planning for and managing the care or the service provided to patient

  • g. evaluates patient outcomes by :
  • documenting progress toward standard of care
  • altering plan of care when standards of care are not met.
  • h. sets sound priorities for sequencing and completing activities
  • i. is consistently alert to progress of patient and / or any potential problem(s) with patient
  • j. is consistently aware of patient safety
  • k. knows how to seek resources for direction, when necessary
  • l. seeks resources for direction, when necessary

Ability to Assess Learning Ability and Behaviors Required in Teaching the Patient and Family

7. Considers patient's and family's readiness, willingness, and ability to learn depending upon patient

and / or family's physical, emotional, and psychosocial development and condition

8. Demonstrates ability to assess the preferred learning style of the patient and family, and applies

assessment to successfully teach

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

License or Certification

Current Idaho RN license; BLS, ACLS required. PALS encouraged. ACLS certification expected within 1 year of hire.

Total Education, Vocational Training, and Experience

Graduate of accredited school of nursing.

2 to 5 years perioperative nursing experience required.
