Position Overview
As a Senior Air Quality Specialist, you will report to the Industrial and Water Engineering District Environmental Manager and provide technical support related to air quality, permitting, and other environmental programs for our various industrial projects and our internal project teams.
This position requires a high degree of technical knowledge, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and strong organizational skills to manage complex activities for the environmental team and several projects over a wide geographic area.

Kiewit’s Industrial and Water Engineering Group has the ability and the responsibility to greatly influence the successful outcome of our projects.
Our team is multi-faceted, with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Food & Beverage, Mineral Processing, Renewable Fuels, Pulp and Paper, Steel & Aluminum, Industrial Buildings, and Industrial Energy, Water and Utilities.
Location
This role can be based out of our Lone Tree, CO, or Lenexa, KS office. Remote work locations will be fairly considered.
Responsibilities
- Assess the environmental impacts associated with client activities, and develop appropriate environmental responses, including permitting and compliance activities.
- Support planning and permitting for air quality requirements, discharges, and required equipment standards and specifications.
- Complete permitting applicability evaluations, air permitting needs (minor source, synthetic minor, new source review non-attainment and PSD, state and federal (Title V), and NSPS and NESHAP applicability review for a wide variety of industries.
- Ensure that all projects comply with relevant environmental regulations, permits, and codes.
- Interface between our company and client consultants, building and maintaining strong working relationships.
- Promote sustainable environmental practices and identify opportunities to enhance environmental performance in projects.
- Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Develop and review project requirements, proposals, and estimates.
- Technical review of environmental deliverables, method statements, monitoring reports, progress reports, and schedule.
- Communicate internally with all employees on the project, other disciplines and departments, and externally with the client, contractors, and Government Agencies.
- Prepare the necessary elements for technical presentations for participation in management, client, and agency meetings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in environmental / chemical engineering, or a related field.
- Professional licensure preferred but not required.
- 10-15 years' experience with air quality permitting / regulatory requirements for large industrial projects.
- Advanced knowledge of federal and state air quality regulations and permit processes.
- Air dispersion modeling experience.
- Ability to communicate complex information effectively (written and verbal) with co-workers, clients, and regulators.
- Must be able to perform complex tasks and handle multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in relevant software and tools used in environmental practices.
- Uncompromising attitude toward safety and integrity.
- Ability to travel as needed.
