Department of Wildlife Management Temporary Faculty Pool

The Department

The Wildlife curriculum focuses on Applied Vertebrate Ecology. Our student learning is directed toward understanding the distribution and abundance of species with a special emphasis on mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians.

Our classroom curriculum is augmented by the facilities available at Cal Poly Humboldt including our newly renovated buildings with state-of-the-art labs, Wildlife Museum, Wildlife Game Pens, The Coral Sea, our marine research vessel, Wildlife Refuge, and an emphasis on learning in the field that is accentuated by easy access to the natural environment.

Our department offers both an undergraduate and graduate program in Wildlife.

At Cal Poly Humboldt, we have a strong reputation and a high rate of job-placement within the discipline with 86% of our graduates employed in a position related to wildlife.

Our faculty is committed to teaching and being professionally active. Our curriculum blends basic science with specialized upper division courses.

We afford students experience in study design and participation in applied research.

Courses offered by the department include : Introduction to Wildlife, Wildlife Policy & Animal Welfare, Principles of Wildlife Management, Ornithology, Ecology & Management of Wetland Habitats For Wildlife, Behavioral Ecology, Animal Energetics, Urban Wildlife Ecology, Spatial Wildlife Ecology, Conservation Biology, and Advanced Topics.

Qualifications

Unless otherwise noted below, the minimum qualifications are a Master’s degree in appropriate field and demonstrated topical expertise in the field of study.

Preference will be given to candidates who are ABD, or have a completed . as well teaching effectiveness as evidenced by evaluation of supervisors, colleagues, and / or students is preferred.

Education : MS in Wildlife or related field, and successful teaching experience with demonstrated topical expertise in the field of study are required.

Preferred qualifications include completion of progress towards completion of a PhD; relevance of training to appropriate area;

teaching effectiveness as evidenced by evaluation of supervisors, colleagues, and / or students is preferred.

WLDF 423, WLDF 430 / 431, WLDF 460, and WLDF 495 Minimum Qualifications

Education : PhD in Wildlife or related field, and successful teaching experience with demonstrated topical expertise in the field of study are required.

Preferred qualifications relevance of training to appropriate area and teaching effectiveness as evidenced by evaluation of supervisors, colleagues, and / or students.

Position Type : Lecturer

Availability : As needed

First Review Date : Applications received by April 1st annually are given first consideration. Early response is encouraged.

Salary : Dependent on qualifications and experience.

The full-time (15 weighted teaching units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated in the schedules below are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six (6) monthly payments for each full semester.

The salary schedule information for the Lecturer Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges :

$4,530 - $6,056

$5,405 - $11,994

$6,190 - $13,172

Appointees are typically placed at the beginning of the range.

Cal Poly Humboldt sits on the traditional homelands of the Wiyot people in what is currently called Arcata, CA. The Wiyot people call the area Goudi'ni (over in the woods).

The Cal Poly Humboldt campus in Northern California is in close proximity to several thriving Native American tribes and communities.

Humboldt currently has the largest percentage of Native American students in the CSU system and has over 30 Native American faculty and staff, many from local area California Indian tribes.

Cal Poly Humboldt is home to a number of leading Native American programs including the Indian Tribal Education and Personnel Program (ITEPP) and the Indian Natural Resource, Science and Engineering Program (INRSEP).

There are also many opportunities at Humboldt to conduct research, teaching and community work on Native American history and cultures, with resources in Special Collections at the Cal Poly Humboldt library.

The Humboldt Room in the Library has fantastic resources for tribally focused archive materials from the region. Humboldt strives to build a supportive and inclusive Native community and engages with Native communities through initiatives and opportunities like the annual California Indian Big Time, Indigenous People's Week, and a chance to network with other faculty and staff as part of the Cal Poly Humboldt Council of American Indian Faculty and Staff.
