The County is seeking a responsible and collaborative Professional Engineer to provide solutions and innovations for water, sewer and reclaimed water studies, design projects, and programs.
The position includes management of subordinate staff in the approval of a wide variety of planning, engineering, and construction projects.
This position will work closely with the Maintenance Division to assure the Pinellas County Utilities (PCU) horizontal assets are properly maintained and replace when needed.
Emphasis of the work is planning, design, and construction of in-house projects from inception to completion and reviewing projects managed by the CIP project management section by providing solutions and innovations, working with the maintenance division, contract administration, coordination with consultants, contractors and other governmental entities.
Candidate should possess the ability to independently manage, coordinate, review, and design water, sewer and reclaimed water utility plans.
What Would You Do?
- Review and approve water, sewer, and reclaimed water designs to ensure they meet Pinellas County policies, Ordinance(s), and standards for public safety, health, and welfare.
- Coordinates with construction field Inspectors to verify water, sewer, or reclaimed water construction
- Informing : Provide information people need to know to do their jobs and to feel good about being a member of the team.
Provide accurate and timely information for decision making.
- Designs required elements of utility engineering infrastructure projects.
- Manage engineering consultant and other staff to accomplish project goals and schedules.
- Prepare, review or arrange for regulatory permit acquisitions.
- Coordinate with construction field inspectors to verify water, sewer , or reclaimed water construction plans.
- Planning : Accurately scopes out length and difficulty of tasks and projects. Set objectives and goals. Measure performance against goals. Evaluate results.

What Do You Need To Have?
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or other relevant engineering discipline and Professional engineering license from the State of Florida and 4 years of experience in utilities, construction, project management, civil engineering, electrical, environmental management, to include 1 year supervising professional engineering functions;
An equivalent combination of education, training, and / or experience.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida Driver's License
- Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and / or disaster situations.
Highly Desirable
- Knowledge of design, permitting, and construction of utility projects
- Experience working as a Land Development Engineer or in a Regulatory Permitting Agency reviewing and approving plans
- Knowledge of Asset Management Risk based assessments of water and sewer systems regarding vertical and horizontal assets
- Knowledge of operating characteristics, capabilities, and limitations of asset and work management systems
- Ability to research developing trends and procedures, and apply sound engineering techniques to solving complex problems relating to water, sewer and reclaimed water systems
- Knowledge of the methods and practices of hydraulic modeling
