As we expand our R&D and pilot operations, we're seeking a driven R&D Technician to join our dynamic and fast-growing team.

Job Overview

The R&D Technician will play a key role in supporting research, experimentation, and process optimization for Hyfe’s technology.

This individual will work closely with the R&D team to conduct laboratory work, assist with pilot-scale experiments, and maintain equipment.

The ideal candidate will be hands-on, detail-oriented, and experienced in operating lab-scale chemical processing equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform defined procedures under direct supervision, including pilot plant experiments, analytical sample preparation, analytical instrument operation and data processing.
• Conduct sample preparation, including milling, drying, and extraction of raw materials.
• Assist senior team members with analysis of samples by HPLC, UV-Vis and LC-MS.
• Maintain a clean and organized laboratory space, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and proper chemical handling.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform routine maintenance to ensure smooth lab operations.
• Maintain inventory of chemicals and supplies, and work with vendors as needed
• Record, compile and analyze experimental data and present findings to the R&D team.
• Assist with other areas of lab management as needed.
• Perform duties in keeping with Hyfé’s values, policies and EHS protocols.

Required Qualifications

• Education : Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or a related scientific field; OR at least 5 years experience working in a laboratory setting
• Experience : At least 2 years of experience working in a laboratory setting, which may include internships or academic research
• Basic understanding of laboratory techniques and safety procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Enthusiasm for learning and professional growth.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced research environment.
• Passionate about solving climate change.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with workflows for sample analysis by UV-Vis, Titrations, HPLC, and / or LC-MS
• Knowledge of biomass characterization and relevant extraction processes
• Familiarity with GMP protocols and safety procedures
• Proficiency in laboratory information management systems (LIMS), data analysis, and documentation
