Position Title : Yard Associate

We are seeking a skilled Yard Associate to join our team at DRY BOX Inc. in Tacoma. The ideal candidate should be physically fit and able to lift 75+ pounds, with basic welding experience, and experience operating large machinery, preferably with forklifts.
Basic computer skills are required. The successful candidate must have their own reliable transportation, be punctual, reliable, and hardworking, with the ability to follow directions and complete all tasks in a timely fashion.
They should be able to work independently to complete all known duties once daily duties are taught.
Position Overview : Responsible for basic-to-advanced container repair and maintenance and basic-to-intermediate vehicle repair and maintenance, including brake and oil checks, preventative maintenance, and recommendations of further repairs and maintenance.
The yard associate will work with office staff, conduct monthly inventory checks, and support overall yard operations under supervision for a safe and efficient environment.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities :
- Maintain and repair all company containers and equipment
- Maintain and repair all company vehicles
- Complete preventive maintenance tasks on all equipment
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and determine root cause
- Keep accurate maintenance records and follow all safety protocols
- Perform basic welding tasks as needed
- Operate forklifts and other large machinery as necessary
- Properly in and out gate all containers entering and leaving the yard. Coordinate with office staff as required.
- Conduct physical inventory, either monthly or at intervals specified by supervisor.
- Maintain the yard in storm ready condition, correctly down stepping rows and maintaining 5ft gaps between rows. Maintain secure stacking for office and single-phase reefer stacks, not allowing anything within 5ft from the overhanging HVAC equipment.
- Follow and enforce container quality program and tag system by properly inspecting all containers on in gate and out-gates.
- Ensure office containers are promptly cleaned to acceptable standards, immediately transfer containers with excessive cleaning or repairs, if applicable.
- Efficiently repair and clean all OOS containers using omni view filter to organize work schedules.
- Ensure efficient flow of truck traffic in the yard, maintain a policy of no paperwork or tie downs in the loading corridor.
Develop strategies to move trucks quickly through the yard. As needed, initiate pre-gate check in with additional yard staff.
- Conduct daily pre-inspections and maintain all lift equipment, request service as required, conduct monthly cab cleaning.
- Coordinate with office staff to ensure 3 day look ahead sales orders are dug out, clean, repaired and assigned to orders.
- Work with yard staff to ensure work is completed efficiently and to quality standards.
- Assign correct cost equipment to sales orders or as directed by Yard manager.
- Prioritize the loading and unloading of Dry Box trucks as much as possible, load and unload Dry Box trucks within 30 minutes of your clock in time.
- Report all accidents / near misses, equipment loss, safety violations, environmental spills before the completion of your shift
- Communicate with equipment control, yard managers, suppliers, vendors, drivers and 3rd party transportation providers
- Responsible for the overall safe operation of the yard as well as environmental cleanliness and compliance.

Qualifications & Skills :
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years working with heavy machinery
- 1+ years welding
- Forklift certification
MINIMUM TECHICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
- Physically fit and able to lift 75+ pounds
- Basic welding experience
- Basic computer skills
- Forklift / large machinery experience
- Must have own reliable transportation
- Must be punctual, reliable and hardworking
- Ability to follow directions and complete all tasks in a timely fashion

Experience working with shipping containers and shipping container repair

Salary Range :
$20-23 / hr for a well-qualified candidate
