Department Summary
The College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) is a large and complex college that offers the core liberal arts and sciences curriculum at the University of Oregon.
Most undergraduates at UO go on to pursue a degree in one of the College’s 40+ undergraduate degree programs. CAS also has 30+ doctoral programs that produce approximately 75% of the PhDs at the University of Oregon.
CAS is home to approximately 750 faculty, over 1000 graduate employees, and 200 administrative employees. CAS has annual budgeted operations expenditures of approximately $160 million and utilizes slightly more than half a million square feet of space spread over 50 separate buildings both on and off-campus.

Position Summary
The Director of Planning, Design, and Facilities reports to the Associate Dean for Finance and Administration and is CAS’s representative for space planning and allocation, renovation and new projects, and existing facilities maintenance and operations.
This position is responsible for CAS space management, planning, feasibility studies, programming, design and construction projects, existing building facilities representing CAS’s senior administration, and its operating units;
and will be the primary CAS liaison to outside units including, but not limited to, Campus Planning and Facilities Management (CPFM), Office of the Registrar, Office of the Provost, and Office of the VP for Research and Innovation (OVPRI).
The individual in this position is responsible for analyzing space needs of CAS’s units and advising CAS leadership regarding space allocation decisions;
for managing all CAS capital construction projects, including laboratory space for CAS research faculty; for coordination with outside units on CAS related projects and for ongoing maintenance and operation of CAS facilities.
The Director of Planning, Design, and Facilities represents CAS on various University committees and task forces and will work closely with CAS’s Divisional Associate Deans and campus planning units to project space needs, manage CAS space holdings, develop funding solutions, help coordinate relocations, track planning, design and construction projects to ensure CAS’s expectations are met, and represent the CAS Dean with and ongoing maintenance and operational items / issues concerning CAS allocated spaces and buildings.
This position has student and support staff supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture or related field
- 5 years experience working with space planning, design, building, and infrastructure project management
