Base pay range
$110,000.00 / yr - $120,000.00 / yr
Position Summary
The Quality Engineer is responsible for supporting and improving the quality assurance processes within an electronics contract manufacturing environment serving Aerospace and Defense customers. The QE ensures that products meet customer requirements, comply with aerospace / defense regulatory standards, and adhere to IPC-A-610 workmanship criteria.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, IPC-A-610 Class 2 & 3, and AS9102 FAI standards throughout the manufacturing process.
- Lead root cause analysis and drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) using 8D, DMAIC, or similar methodologies.
- Support first article inspections (FAIs), customer audits, source inspections, and internal quality audits.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve process control, reduce defects, and implement quality improvements (e.g., SPC, CPK, PFMEA).
- Develop and maintain quality documentation : control plans, inspection criteria, procedures, and checklists.
- Interface directly with aerospace and defense customers to resolve product or process issues and manage quality expectations.
- Support and evaluate supplier quality, including incoming inspection and nonconformance resolution.
- Perform inspections and audits on SMT, through-hole, and hand-soldered assemblies according to IPC-A-610 workmanship standards.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean, Kaizen, and Six Sigma projects.
- Use tools like Minitab, ERP / MRP systems, and electronic quality systems to track performance and drive improvements.
Requirements
5+ years of quality engineering experience in electronics manufacturing, preferably in an Aerospace / Defense contract manufacturing environment.Strong working knowledge of IPC-A-610, AS9100, AS9102, and quality inspection methods.Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, or a related technical field.Experience with FAIRs, PPAP, SPC, CAPA, and quality audits.Hands-on familiarity with SMT, PCB assembly, and high-reliability electronics manufacturing.Proficient in Microsoft Office and quality tools / software (e.g., Minitab, ERP / MRP platforms).Certifications preferred : IPC Certified Specialist or Trainer (CIS / CIT), ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE).Strong communication skills and experience interfacing with customers, auditors, and suppliers.Detail-oriented with a proactive, problem-solving mindset and ability to work independently.Seniority level
