POSITION TITLE : Customer Service Representative
ACCOUNTABLE TO : Customer Service Manager (CSM)
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
To assist in monitoring and maintaining accurate and efficient front end functions and perform cashiering duties as required to ensure a positive shopping experience for customers.
NATURE AND SCOPE
Primary emphasis in this position is to assist in the supervision of the front end, and perform cashier functions. Position follows front end checkout procedures in all transactions, maintaining positive customer relations and expedient processing of all orders.
Position assists in supervising the front end with regards to policies and procedures, cashier performance, labor control and customer relations.
This position requires on-going customer interaction, providing prompt, courteous and accurate service, social skills / verbal interaction, judgment / decision making, register / scanner operation, reading, lifting, and standing.
Position functions and work hours vary according to business needs. Assignments and work direction provided by Customer Service Manager or person in charge.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
Assist customers and ensure proper service levels and courtesy from all associates
- Greet, offer assistance, and thank customers
- Answer or refer questions, and respond to customer requests as needed
- Bring customers to location of item
- Perform price checks
- Respond to customer assistance needs / calls promptly
- Monitor and ensure prompt, courteous, and accurate customer relations
- Direct customer problems to next level of management as appropriate
Monitor and supervise check out procedures to ensure proper product scanning and customer order processing is accurate, efficient and prompt
- Ensure minimal waiting time for each customer
- Monitor to ensure all products are rung up appropriately including product under the cart.
- Ensure items are scanned so it is properly identified by the register system
- Ensure coupons are coded properly
- Ensure price checks are obtained and scan error forms completed as necessary
- Monitor and ensure policy and procedures are followed when handling tobacco, alcohol and lottery transactions
- Ensure proper etiquette is used for telephone and paging system
- Ensure adherence to company policies
Monitor and supervise the handling of all forms of tender and coupons
- Ensure transactions are properly entered into register system
- Ensure credit and debit card transactions are properly entered into register system and processed
- Ensure electronic transactions (food stamps) are properly entered into register system and processed
- Ensure verification of checks and proper utilization of check verification system and processing of checks into register system
- Ensure coupons are valid and correctly entered and credited to appropriate department
Monitor and supervise accurate handling of voids, returns, refunds and exchanges
- Ensure store return, refund and exchange policies are followed
- Review for proper authorization and handling
- Ensure that transaction is handled in a courteous and efficient manner
Assist in front end personnel functions
- Conduct training and assess retraining needs
- Provide input to Customer Service Manager regarding associates performance
- Responsible for documentation of customer feedback regarding front end performance
- Keep Customer Service Manager informed about performance issues, front end conditions and problems. Provide suggestions for improvement where possible
Assist in monitoring front end safety and security procedures
- Ensure associates know and are able to implement emergency procedures
- Ensure front end personnel are properly trained in safety procedures and guidelines
- Ensure proper authorization for admittance to secured areas
- Ensure security tape is applied as necessary for proof of purchase
- Monitor and ensure appropriate scanning techniques and ergonomic methods
- Notify appropriate personnel in case of theft or shoplifting
- Observe front end conditions and ensure clean, organized and safe conditions including filling bags and keeping front end clear of shopping carts
Perform cashiering duties
- Scan and process customer orders
- Ensure positive customer relations and satisfaction
- Ensure proper handling of tender and coupons
- Follow front end security procedures
- Assist with front end cleaning and maintenance
- Use personal protective devices (chemical resistant gloves) for cleaning glass
- Utilize proper etiquette for telephone and intercom calls
Follow all store and department policies and procedures
