The Safety Specialist will support the development, implementation, training, periodic updating, and auditing of a comprehensive Safety program across all business locations to promote a safety-focused culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and secure a safe work environment for all employees.

They will support functional areas relating to Safety and Risk Management by providing hands on support and services for inspections, incident and claims management, investigations, and overall program administration consistent with business goals and objectives.

Building Security and Fleet Management responsibilities will also be assigned within this role.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other functions may be assigned :

  • Lead safety programs and initiatives by influencing employees’ actions and behaviors toward safer choices.
  • Conduct safety audits, inspections, and plan reviews to identify unsafe conditions and program gaps, as well as ensuring best practices.
  • Deliver a wide variety of safety training for employees.
  • Maintain the safety training tracking system to ensure all information is organized and up to date for all locations.
  • Conduct incident investigations with a focus on gaining understanding of the root cause and determining best corrective and preventive actions for the identified causes.
  • Works cooperatively with key stakeholders to plan and execute actions.
  • Coach / mentor employees at a variety of levels on safe work practices, hazard identification and risk management.
  • Support management of company fleet assets and related systems.
  • Support management of company facility security and related systems.
  • Approximately 15% local and regional travel required.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Interest in pursuing a career in Occupational Safety and Health and growth as a professional.
  • Experience with HVAC, commercial construction, and / or other related technical work preferred.
  • DOT Compliance experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of OSHA and State safety regulations preferred.
  • Knowledge of the programs, policies and practices of the Commercial HVAC industry and warehousing related to safety and property preferred.
  • Strong communication, influencing, and diplomacy skills.
  • Strong cross-functional strategic leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.

Must have a reliable means of transport to drive to the local office and job sites when needed.
