WATER - EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
General Definition of Work
Performs works responsible in the operation of heavy equipment to maintain, repair and operate the water facilities in the City of Cape Girardeau.
Essential Functions
Operates a variety of equipment and vehicles such as front-end loader, backhoes and service vehicles.
Transports equipment to and from work sites.
Maintains, repairs and performs preventive maintenance on water related equipment.
Assists crews in the inspection of new installations of water lines, appurtenances and new water facilities.
Performs snow and ice removal duties
Assists with traffic control duties.
Responds to emergency call out situations as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalency plus three (3) years experience and demonstrated proficiency in heavy equipment operations on construction site.
Must comply with Missouri CDL requirements and maintain a valid Class A license with airbrake endorsement.
Salary per hour $18.95, plus a generous benefit package.
- Bi-weekly pay periods.
- Twelve paid holidays per year.
- 96 hours of vacation - accrued throughout the year.
- 96 hours of sick leave - accrued throughout the year.
- 2 days of personal leave per fiscal year.
- City paid monthly premiums for health and dental insurance - Employee only.
- City paid monthly life insurance for employee only (1 times annual salary up to $50,000).
- Optional group term life insurance purchased at employee's expense.
- Optional vision insurance purchased at employee's expense.
- Voluntary deferred compensation plan - not matched by the City.

- Total compensation value for this position is $28.26 hourly / $58,789 yearly, which consists of starting hourly rate plus the benefit package.
Before final appointment, successful applicant will be required to successfully complete a drug test, background investigation and pre-employment physical.
