What it is :

The Database & System Administrator is responsible for the maintenance and administration of information technology resources such as databases, servers, cloud infrastructure, software, and computer systems to ensure high levels of availability and security throughout the enterprise.

Reporting to the Sr. IT Manager, this role interacts with other team members participating in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure availability, support, and maintenance is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.

What you'll do :

This is a salary, exempt, full-time role. Your essential duties and responsibilities will consist of :

  • Interacts with team members on support related issues in a technical support role
  • Responds to requests from users via telephone, e-mail, walk-ins and chat in a courteous manner, and creates relevant documentation as needed
  • Creates required reports in response to business user needs
  • Recommends software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations, and / or purchases, especially as it relates to databases.
  • Utilizes existing documentation to complete recurring tasks
  • Assists with communications (e-mail, IM, etc.) and connection solutions, including workstation connectivity, local area networks, company website, intranet, and Internet applications
  • Monitors systems and databases to ensure they have the latest updates and security patches
  • Assists in troubleshooting of internal and datacenter network / server issues
  • Monitors back-ups of servers and related systems
  • Ensures adherence to company I.T. policies and procedures
  • Manages end user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance
  • Administers, configures, and maintains Microsoft SQL Server, including on-prem and Azure SQL environments.
  • Performs regular database maintenance tasks such as backup / restore, optimization, and indexing.
  • Writes, tests, and optimizes SQL queries, views, stored procedures, and SSIS packages.
  • Ensures data integrity and availability through proper management of database schemas, indexes, and table partitions.
  • Implements and manages database security, including roles, permissions, and encryption.
  • Manages and maintains data warehouse systems, ensuring proper ETL processes and data quality.
  • Utilizes database management tools for monitoring, alerting, and performance tuning.
  • Develops and maintains documentation of database configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Collaborates with development teams to design and implement database solutions that meet business requirements.
  • Assists with disaster recovery planning and execution related to database systems.
  • Microsoft 365 administration (Exchange Online, Azure Active Directory, Security & Compliance Center, Teams)
  • On-call for production systems support
  • Minimal travel required
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Who we need :

To succeed in this role, the Database & System Administrator will need a particular skill set. For this position, those include :

  • Other Essential Skills
  • Experience with database clustering, replication, and high availability configurations.
  • Working technical knowledge of networking protocols and standards such as TCP / IP, DNS, DHCP, FTP, SFTP, FTPS, SSH, Subnetting, VLAN's, VPN's (Site-to-Site and client access), QoS, etc.
  • Hands-on experience managing Microsoft Azure Networking, VM, backups, security, etc.
  • Security-focused individual; familiar with security best practices and MFA, WAF, etc
  • Hands-on experience administering Active Directory (ADFS, ADDS, Group Policies, DNS, DHCP, etc.)
  • Salesforce Administration experience is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of virtualization technologies such as VMWare vSphere, Azure, Serverless, AWS, etc.
  • Working knowledge of creating, modifying, and deploying scripts like PowerShell and / or other scripting tools.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows Server operating systems 2008-2022 and Windows 10 / 11 administration.
  • Managing File and Print Servers. Papercut is a plus.
  • Working with web servers IIS, Apache / LAMP Stack, Basic HTML / PHP, load balancers, CDN, WAF.
  • SSL, SSO, Ping Identity, and Azure App certificates and secrets, as well as monitoring / updating them.
  • Position includes providing Database Administration as well as Server, Desktop and Network Administration
  • Management of cloud-based telecommunication systems. Five9 and Zoom Contact Center are a plus.
  • Ability to work well with others and follow any task to its logical completion with minimal intervention from others.
  • Practiced interpersonal relations and oral presentation skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening, and questioning skills
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to seamlessly perform and prioritize multiple tasks with excellent attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • AI Skills such as Prompting, RAG, GPT, Gemini, etc., are a plus.
  • Experience SOC2 and CIS 8 Security Controls
  • Exceptional customer service skills.

2. Essential Physical Skills

  • Acceptable vision and hearing (with or without correction)
  • Bending on occasion and lifting and transporting up to approximately 40 pounds occasionally
  • Standing and walking approximately 8-10 or more hours a day
  • Talking and sitting for long periods of time, approximately 8-10 hours a day
  • Writing and / or typing for long periods of time, approximately 8-10 hours a day
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, hand tools, and to handle other computer components

3. Education, Certifications, and Software Skills

  • An Associates degree in the field of computer science with two years of experience or four years of experience in information technology and at least two years of equivalent work experience as a database or system administrator.
  • Industry certifications from CompTIA, Microsoft, Cisco, Salesforce, etc are desirable
