Position Summary
Southern Land Company, a national real estate development and construction firm is seeking a full-time Regional Director of Horticulture Services to join our dynamic team in Erie, CO to be responsible for the Single Family Developments on the West Coast.
The Regional Director of Horticulture Services is responsible for providing a world-class resident and visitor experience by establishing and maintaining exceptional professional standards for the horticultural care, display, and interpretation of Southern Land Company's single-family communities.
The Director must have both the vision to achieve an innovative horticulture program as well as the hands-on skills to ensure execution with a focus on enriching the appearance of our unique and extraordinary environments.
Primary Responsibilities
- Establish horticulture protocols, goals, priorities, and management strategy for each community in line with budgetary goals and ensuring best practice.
- Develop, monitor and control budgets to achieve fiscal goals.
- Oversee the planning, scheduling, planting, cultivation, and care of turf, shrubs, flowers, and trees at all communities, ensuring that all horticultural installations comply with the company’s standards of excellence.
- Perform regular quality control inspections at all properties, working with property managers to ensure issues due to environmental conditions, pests and physical damage are quickly resolved.
- Oversee the application of fertilizers, insecticides, fungicides and herbicides ensuring proper and timely completion.
- Manage the design of seasonal displays including winter holiday greens, bulbs, early spring and summer annuals.
- Research new materials, trends, technology, products, best practices and equipment to remain innovative in the creation of inspiring landscapes.
- Manage the RFP process and secure contracts for all purchases and services.
- Actively promote and develop environmentally friendly and sustainable management practices, consistent with the overall goals of the organization.
Promote Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles when possible.
Instruct and train landscape supervisors and staff in proper horticultural methods, techniques, equipment use, plant design, insect and disease identification and treatment;
guide and give technical assistance when necessary.
Ensure that all vehicles, tools, materials, equipment and other resources are appropriate for the site and used safely, effectively, and efficiently.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to keep sensitive information highly confidential.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to deal professionally with clients, vendors, and co-workers on the phone and in person.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to take initiative, use good judgment, demonstrate a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail, and carry multiple projects through to completion.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritize work and ask for further clarification when necessary.
- Ability to work under pressure with tight time constraints, as well as the ability to deal with frequent interruptions, unresolved situations, frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
- Travel required; willing to work some nights and weekends.

Required Education and Experience
- 5-10 years of horticulture management experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, Agriculture, Botany, Business Management or related field.
