The Associate Director serves as a team leader within thePromise division and provides oversight to areas under Academic & CareerSuccess, Student Involvement, and Residence Life & Community Standards.

Reportingto the Director of LIU Promise and Director of Student Engagement, the AssociateDirector ensures delivery of essential services and programing to ensurestudent retention, persistence and degree completion.

The Associate Director isresponsible for execution of programming to engage students and create avibrant campus life. The Associate Director will work as a member of the LIUPromise leadership team and will oversee all operations, services and willassist leadership with strategic planning.

the leader will coordinate day-to-day team logistics toinclude timeliness to work, office coverage, assignment completion, meetingdeadlines, submission of time sheets, vacation requests, and specialcircumstances such as university closures.

The leader will set the example for timeliness of work assignments andhold team members accountable.

PrincipalResponsibilities :

  • Overall management of the daily operations of LIU Promise,including serving on the departmental leadership team to ensure successfulexecution of academic and career success, student engagement, residence lifeand community standards, veterans affairs, student programming, LIU Cares, andother key student affairs functions.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of professional staff membersincluding establishing goals and fostering professional developmentopportunities, monitor goals for team and meet recruitment and retention goals.
  • Hold regular team meetings and staff one-on-one meetings.
  • Facilitate, participate and oversee training / developmentprograms for professional staff.
  • Serve as primary advisor and success coach for workingcaseload of students.
  • Collaborate with variousoffices to support recruitment andretention efforts and events.
  • Support the student experiencethrough the LIU four-year model from pre-enrollment through graduation.
  • Assist in pre-enrollment,admissions, orientation, campus, and career activities reinforcing theimportance of a collective, integrated college experience geared towardacademic and career success.
  • Prepare students for their transition to the college, andintegrate new students into the intellectual, cultural, and social life of theUniversity.
  • Plan and execute campus programming, including but notlimited to campus engagement, student involvement, career success and academicsuccess.
  • Ensure accurate academic advisement to each student,specifically through the progression of the initial registration uponacceptance to major / degree selection as it pertains to career interests andpursuits.
  • Interpret career assessment instruments and provide careerresources / advisement, developing a timely career track congruent with students’academic pursuits.
  • Assess need for and provide override / approval access tofinancial aid, academic advising and other pertinent campus functions.
  • Attend meetings, participate in campus-wide committees, andassist with annual projects and events assigned.
  • Coordinate with counterpart(s) on other campuses to ensure astreamlined and uniform LIU student experience.
  • Other duties as assigned by Directors in LIU Promise.

Associate DirectorArea Specializations : STUDENT INVOLVEMENT

  • Develop campus-wide programming, traditions andinitiatives that enhance a vibrant campus life experience for all students,both residing on-campus and commuting.
  • Provide leadership to LIU Cares, the University-wide serviceinitiative by creating opportunities on-campus and in the community.
  • Facilitate the student leadership program and manage studentorganizations and Greek Life.
  • Develop and execute new student orientation programs.
  • Create, design and execute marketing material for all campusevents.
  • Recruit, train and hire a cohort of student leaders to serveas orientation leaders, resident assistants and student workers.
  • Provide weekend and evening coverage of student life andstudent organization programs.

Associate DirectorArea Specializations : ACADEMIC & CAREER SUCCESS

  • Support all functions of Career Success for the LIUcommunity in accordance with the NACE Standards.
  • Assist with the monitoring and tracking of LIUHandshake including : student profile completion, resume competition, internshipplacement and student employment outcomes.
  • Execute campus wide career support / success workshops,programs and events .
  • Plan, develop and execute internship ready studentprogram.
  • Assist with the training to integrate careerexploration into Promise coaching, academic advising and the classroom.
  • Work collaboratively with the Alumni and EmployerRelations Office.
  • Support international student success and study abroad.
  • Plan, facilitate and execute student employmentinitiatives including on campus employment fair and career / internship expos.
  • Facilitate academic workshop series including thetopics of time management, notetaking, self-registration tutorials, and otherprogramming to promote academic success of students.

Associate DirectorArea Specializations : VETERANS AFFAIRS

  • Assist with the coordination and centralization ofcampus efforts for all veterans.
  • Support all functions of the Veterans Student ResourceCenter.
  • Create aculture of trust and connectedness across the campus community to promotewell-being and success for veterans.
  • Collaboratewith local communities and organizations, including government agencies, toalign and coordinate various services for veterans.
  • Providecomprehensive professional development for faculty and staff on issues andchallenges unique to veterans.
  • Assistwith the systemization of a uniform set of data tools to collect and trackinformation on veterans, including demographics, retention, and degreecompletion.
  • Utilize and promote early alert system to ensure all veterans receive academic,career, and financial advice.
  • Recruit, train and hire a cohort of veteran student leadersto serve the Student Veteran Resource Cente

Associate DirectorArea Specializations : OPERATIONSAND COMMUNITY STANDARDS

  • Plan and execute a marketing plan for student oncampus housing selection.
  • Assist with all functions of LIU Housing operationaccordance with the ACUHO-I.
  • Assist with campus efforts to comply with immunizationsregulations meeting Public Health Law compliance.
  • Serve as primary hearing officer for student conduct hearingprocess and serve as investigators for Title IX.
  • Execute contracts for conference clients securing revenue ofone million dollars.
  • Manage all residence hall facilities upgrades, repairs andrenovation planning.
  • Coordinate all summer conference operations.
  • Support efforts for enrollment and marketing of LearningCommunities.
  • Assist with the monitoring, tracking and seeking ofall LIU community service related activities.
  • Support the monitoring and tracking of operationaldata for Promise including : residence hall and conference revenue reports;

Summer Honors Institute operational data; weekly Promise reports; studentjudicial records; university Clery records and Title IX reports.

EducationRequirements :

Master’s Degree Required

Training, Skills,Knowledge, Experience :

  • At least 2-4 years of progressively professional experiencein higher education, student affairs; sound judgment and decision-makingskills.
  • Proven track record of success managing co-curricularactivities and / or academic support services.
  • Appreciation for cultural differences and global values.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Facility with database management systems.
  • High energy and enthusiasm to work with students and propelthem toward success.

WorkingConditions :

  • Flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, arerequired to execute the position’s role responsibly.
  • Occasional travel to / from other LIU campuses for thefacilitation of trainings, meetings and other university functions.
