Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Review new product plans and make recommendations for material selection based on design objectives, such as strength, weight, heat resistance, electrical conductivity, and cost.
  • Develop materials and study the atomic structure of materials in order to discover new applications for their mechanical, electrical or chemical properties.
  • Conduct or supervise tests on raw materials or finished products to ensure quality.
  • Analyze product failure data and lab test results in order to determine causes of problems and develop solutions.
  • Determine appropriate methods for fabricating and joining materials.
  • Monitor material performance and evaluate material deterioration.
  • Plan and implement operations for developing material and fabrication procedures that meet cost, product specification, and performance standards.

Must-Have Skills

  • Basic knowledge of metals, plastics, elastomers, polymer composites, and ceramic materials, metal engineering
  • Knowledge of material degradation mechanisms such as creep, corrosion, and others
  • Experience conducting failure analysis, master’s degree, Electrical or mechanical engineering
