The Pediatric Registered Nurse - PICU is responsible for providing care to pediatric patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Pediatric Medical / Surgical units.

This includes performing initial assessments, developing care plans, implementing nursing interventions, and modifying plans based on continuous evaluation.

The role also involves monitoring patient intake and output, administering medications, and ensuring excellent communication with patients and their families.

Key responsibilities :

  • Collaborate with Pediatric Intensivists and Pediatric Hospitalists
  • Monitor intake and output of pediatric patients
  • Change dressings, insert catheters, and start IVs
  • Administer medications using proper bar code scanning
  • Notify appropriate provider of high alert lab results
  • Act as a mandated reporter for suspected abuse / neglect cases
  • Ensure excellent communication with patients and families through meaningful hourly rounding, bedside report, and whiteboard updates
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure quality outcomes
