SINCE PASSING MY INITIAL TRAINING, I HAVE ENJOYED POSTINGS TO BOTH CYPRUS AND GERMANY, AND HAVE DEPLOYED ON OPERATIONS TO AFGHANISTAN AND BAHRAIN.
Getting mail delivered isn't just important in the Army - it's vital. As a Postal and Courier Operator, you'll play a key role in getting mail to soldiers, sailors and airmen so they can stay in touch with friends and family.
You'll train as a courier, mail guard, counter clerk and sorter, learning how to use the latest IT and satellite communication systems You will work in the Secure courier network, safeguarding and distributing Protectively Marked Material in the UK and overseas. Key Responsibilities
- Run your own Post Office using state-of-the-art IT systems to handle large amounts of cash and stock. Work with all types of mail - both official and private.
- You'll be based at South Cerney in Gloucestershire with opportunities to be deployed worldwide.
- Deploy all over the world on exercise and operations - wherever your expertise is needed.
- Gain your Category B and C+E driving licences.
- Gain your Level 2 Modern Apprenticeship - NVQ Level 2 Express Mail Services as well as the Defence Awarding Organisation's Level 2, 3 & 5 Award in Postal & Courier Services.
Training For The Role
Step 1
You'll start with your initial military training which will teach you how to be a soldier - this will cover everything from fieldcraft to handling a rifle.
If you join as a Junior Soldier (under 17 years 5 months), youll do a 23-week basic military training course at Harrogate.
If you join as a Regular Soldier (over 17 years 1 month), youll do the regular 14-week adult basic training.
Step 2
Next, you will undertake your 15-week Combat Logistician course at the Defence School of Transport in Leconfield. During this, you will earn your Category C+E driving licence and study general service driver modules.
This training also gives you the opportunity to gain a broader knowledge on the Royal Logistic Corps functions and roles.
Step 3
After mastering the basics, youll take a four-week course at the Defence College of Logistics, Policing and Administration in Worthy Down, Winchester.
This teaches you to use our systems which help us track and trace mail all over the world. You also learn how to deal with Top Secret material.
Your Class 2 is awarded after 12 months on the job training, and completion of all RLC PC Op Class 2 training objectives.
You are then eligible to upgrade to a Class 1 Postal and Courier Operator on selection for promotion to Lance Corporal.

Age : 16 years 6 months - 35 years 6 months Qualifications : GCSE Grades A - D / 9 - 3 which must include English Language and Maths. Fitness :

Qualifications You Could Get After Training
- Levels 2+3 Certificate in Logistics and Transport.
- Levels 5+6 Diploma in Logistics and Transport.
- British Institute for Facilities Management - Level 4 in Facilities Management.
- Defence Awarding Organisation Level 2 & 3 Award in Postal Accounting Management Transactions.
- Defence Awarding Organisation - Level 4 Award in Management of Postal & Courier Services.
- Level 2 Express Delivery Operative.

Earn 15,985 during training. When you have completed 26 weeks service or finished basic trade training whichever comes first, your pay will rise to 20,400 From the Field
The Postal & Courier trade has afforded me countless opportunities. Since initial training I have enjoyed postings to Cyprus and Germany and have deployed on operations to Afghanistan and Bahrain.
As a JNCO I have fulfilled management roles, most notably as 2IC of the Bag Exchange Office for British Forces Germany, where I was responsible for a small team tasked with the delivery of military mail.
My time in Germany has been particularly interesting - Ive done everything from implementing cutting-edge technologies to skiing in the Bavarian Alps and Im soon going, on promotion, to a detachment in Washington, USA. HOW TO APPLY

You'll start with your initial military training which will teach you how to be a soldier. You will spend at least 23 days with your Unit and learn about handling weapons and surviving outdoors.
You will then learn about your trade.
You will receive similar training to a Regular soldier and the chance to get your driving licence (if you dont have it already).

Gain your Category B+E driving licence. Pay and Benefits
You'll get paid a day rate according to your rank, starting from 40.13 in training and rising to 51.22 per day once you're a Private.
This includes being paid for weekly drill nights. Plus, if you complete all of your annual training days, you're entitled to a tax-free lump sum called a bounty.
