Job Overview
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, development, and production launch of mining and quarry Blasthole Track Drills.
This role includes developing CAD models and drawings, performing calculations to meet specification requirements, and assisting cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Product Support, Field Technicians, and others.
The Mechanical Engineer will be directly involved in machine builds and customer field follows, providing solutions to various issues.
Key Job Responsibilities
- As part of the Track Drill team, evaluate designs and processes to meet machine performance goals
- Design mechanical components and layouts
- Create routed assemblies between main components
- Add fabrication details to support drawings
- Develop 3D CAD models and drawings in SOLIDWORKS in compliance with GD&T and Komatsu standards
- Enter SOLIDWORKS files into the PDM software
- Work with suppliers on purchased part designs
- Engineering systems that this person would be exposed to include the following : mechanical, electrical, sheet metal design, large welded structures, hydraulic systems (open and closed circuit), air compressors, and diesel engines.
- Recommend technical solutions, participate in design reviews and projects
- Interpret and apply customer requirements, industry standards, and internal design and manufacturing standards to ensure designs meet customer requirements at an agreed upon level of performance and reliability
- Identify and resolve technical issues and questions within area of expertise with the support of various teams
- Maintain open channels of communication with all groups
Qualifications / Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
- 0 to 5 years of Mechanical Engineering experience
- Experience with SOLIDWORKS, GD&T, and a PDM software package
- Able to use Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Good communication skills
- High energy and self-motivated
