Eastern North Carolina has significant health burdens, especially in the rural, low-income, and racial and ethnic minority communities in our region.
Many of these issues are brought to light through environmental impacts in our region, such as natural disasters and climate change, as well as through the social determinants of health, which is a major driving force for our teaching, research, and service.
The Department of Public Health is also very collaborative in research and service and works with a number of local, regional, state, and national public health and healthcare agencies.
