Job Description
Drug Product Development is responsible for designing and developing formulations that enable delivery of AbbVies candidate molecules in a dosage form which is intended for product commercialization.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Scientist in the Formulation Sciences group based in North Chicago, IL.
AbbVie is seeking a highly motivated, collaborative scientist with a proven track record in the design, characterization and understanding of long acting injectable (LAI) formulations / processes, components and supporting delivery technologies for small molecules.
Key responsibilities include :
- Lead the formulation design for small molecule development candidates within the AbbVie pipeline.
- Interface to drug product development teams to ensure that biopharmaceutical and physicochemical considerations are incorporated into formulation design.
- Advance scientific expertise within function. Proactively demonstrate leadership by advising and sharing knowledge and expert opinions with subordinates, peers, and senior management.
- Ensure development of technologies and scientific innovation that improve the capability to formulation small molecules within the AbbVie pipeline
- Collaborate with other functions within AbbVie to align a broad range of strategies that directly support drug discovery and development programs
- Ensure compliance with AbbVie safety, quality and regulatory policies and government regulations.
Qualifications
MS (8-10 yr. experience) or PhD (0-4 yr experience) in Pharmaceutics, Chemical Engineering, Material Sciences or equivalent discipline
Preferred :
- Minimum of 2-year pharmaceutical industrial experience in
- developing PLGA polymeric microsphere-based LAI drug products for clinical studies.
- characterizing PLGA microspheres utilizing appropriate analytical techniques to facilitate LAI drug product development.
- troubleshooting formulation and fabrication processes including resolution of potential scale-up issues.
- Fundamental understanding of physicochemical properties related to formulation design.
- Technical awareness in various aspects of drug development, adherence to rigorous scientific method, and commitment to the scientific process.
- Strong drive for learning new techniques and technologies.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team setting.
