Job Summary :
The Medical Assistant performs various clinical and administrative tasks. Clinical duties are performed under the supervision of the provider and may include, but not limited to, obtaining and recording vital signs, preparing treatment rooms, obtaining medical histories, assisting medical providers with procedures and updating the medical record to ensure accurate up to date information.
Other clinical duties may include drawing blood and administering vaccinations as directed by the physician or mid-level provider.
Administrative tasks include scheduling appointments, data entry and obtaining routine health maintenance data to support the quality measure programs.
Job Responsibilities :
1. Obtains accurate vital signs, medical histories and updates health management protocols in EHR
2. Prepares exam rooms for clinical procedures and assists medical providers with procedure completion
3. Collects blood or urine specimens to perform and document point of care lab testing
4. Performs diagnostic studies, such as EKGS, as directed by ordering provider
5. Performs data entry and assists in capturing information for quality reporting
6. Prepares and / or administers intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injections including medications and immunizations as ordered by physician or midlevel provider
7. Administers screening questionnaires to patients per standard of care guidelines and communicates findings to physician or midlevel provider
8. Updates patient appointment / tracking software
9. Completes workload tasks in a timely and efficient manner
10. Stocks medical supplies in clinical areas
11. Utilizes strong communication and customer service skills to patients, peers and providers
12. Performs all tasks associated with preparing a patient’s chart for an upcoming appointment
13. Performs other clinical and administrative responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
Education Requirements and Other Requirements :
Education Level : High school graduate or equivalent required. Medical terminology course or background required. Graduate of a medical assistant program preferred.
Will train if necessary. Certification preferred or willingness to become certified.
Technical Skills : Must be able to complete computer work and document activities in the patient appointment / tracking software.
Experience Requirements : Experience in a medical setting. Prior experience as a medical assistant is preferred.
Other Requirements : Excellent communication, customer service and interpersonal skills are necessary.
Working Conditions : Exposure Category I : Exposure Category I : Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes of them, are Category I tasks.
Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
