Within the Institutional Analytics (IA) division, the Compliance and Reporting team is comprised of institutional research, decision support, and analytic professionals at Indiana University.

The primary responsibilities of the area entail mandated (Federal, State, and accreditor) and external reporting, decision support reporting for university leadership, and the data architecture and rendering of the underlying student data structures for the institution.

Job Summary

As a Financial Aid Business Analyst on the IA Compliance and Reporting team, the incumbent will be responsible for the following :

Department-Specific Responsibilities

Leverages knowledge of financial aid policies and processes, other student data, and financials data to effectively collect and understand report requirements;

analyzes and identifies the appropriate data to satisfy report requests; and produces accurate, clear, and well-informed reports of financial aid data for standard and ad hoc requests.

  • Defines, creates, and publishes financial aid and other institutional data views to serve all campuses, in perpetuity. These data views and analytical reports serve as the official data representations for IU to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serves as a resource for employees needing information about financial aid tables, data groups, and fields. Creates and updates reports and business processes documentation.
  • Supports the Institutional Analytics office by researching and staying up-to-date on federal, state, and external survey policies associated with financial aid that may affect data reporting within the university.

This is done in collaboration with the University Financial Aid Office.

Develops and generates complex data extracts from the IU Student Information System (Oracle / Peoplesoft) and the IU data warehouse (DSS and / or ODS tables) environments to address financial aid and institutional reporting / decision support needs and mandated compliance reporting.

University administration relies upon this work for decision support and evaluative analytics.

Collaborates with other units within Institutional Analytics to support data literacy programming and broaden the accessibility of critical information needed for campus constituents.

General Responsibilities

  • Provides experienced analysis of existing data and data structures and satisfies ad-hoc reporting / analysis requests.
  • Creates reporting specifications for new reports / dashboards / analytical tools and performs testing / validation; ensures integrity, accessibility, and accuracy of reports / dashboards and data structures;

reviews and approves user requests for access to reporting data and tools.

  • Consults with faculty and / or staff to identify new business reporting needs and provides guidance and interpretation of complex environments and data.
  • Documents data analysis efforts (data sources, reporting specifications, tools, issue / problem resolutions).
  • Performs experienced analysis to interpret and determine validity and quality of data.
  • Performs migration and conversion of data as needed in support of analysis efforts.
  • Researches and stays up-to-date on emerging technologies and tools and makes recommendations for implementation to improve data analysis services and approaches.

EDUCATION

Required

Bachelor's degree

Preferred

  • Degree in computer science, information science, or related field
  • Master's degree or a certificate in institutional research or higher education and student affairs

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

2 years of data analysis, reporting, or related experience

Preferred

  • 2 years of experience in higher education with knowledge specifically related to student financial aid
  • 2 years of experience developing and maintaining student data reporting systems and infrastructure in a large, complex institution, preferably at a school that uses PeopleSoft for their student data system

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Preferred

NASFAA certification for financial aid professionals

  • Must be adept at learning new technologies and functionality of new systems
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and ability to manage sensitive data

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment.

The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
