Job Title : Estimator
Location : Kansas City, Kansas area (NOTE : Will assist with relocation for the right candidate!)
About : Our client specializing in commercial and structural fabrication, as well as heavy fabrication for Departments of Transportation and the US Army Corps of Engineers.
Job Description : We are seeking an Estimator to join our client's team and help us profitably grow sales and elevate the company to the next level.
Responsibilities :
- Perform material quantity take-offs and labor estimates to accurately cost projects
- Develop comprehensive, detailed proposals for projects estimated
- Develop options and recommend best value solutions by quoting various suppliers and / or subcontractors
- Identify opportunities for change orders to streamline fabrication and manage costs
- Prepare, issue, and track change orders for original contract scope changes
- Perform project management as needed to support fabrication and track and communicate status to customers
- Quote and purchase raw materials as needed
- Identify potential risks before they become a problem, focusing on root cause analysis and preventive action
- Assess project risk and understand all project and contract documents
- Review proposals, specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc., to determine scope of work and develop quantity take-offs
- Develop and maintain relationships with general contractors
Qualifications :
- Knowledge and understanding of Structural Steel and Miscellaneous Metals
- Knowledge and understanding of building construction combined with steel design concepts presented on architectural and engineering drawings
- Ability to prepare proposals with minimum supervision
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate bid inclusions, exclusions, and proposal clarifications with owners and subcontractors
- Project set up, budget planning, buy out, and cost reporting experience is a must
- Understanding of critical path scheduling
- Energetic and highly motivated with a strong sense of urgency
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Office, On-Screen Estimating or Bluebeam, Fabrol, or Tekla (Tekla experience is ideal)
- Previous experience with projects for Departments of Transportation and United States Army Corps of Engineers is ideal
Education / Experience :
- Bachelor’s in Construction Management or similar desired but not required
- 3+ years of estimating experience required
