About The Position

License : Valid Provisional Respiratory Care Practitioner License or temporary letter to practice issued by the Medical Board.

Certifications : Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered Respiratory Therapist credential through the National Board of Respiratory Care. Basic Life Support within 2 months of hire.

Must-Have : Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care program.

Description :

The Licensed Respiratory Therapist assesses, implements, and evaluates the delivery of respiratory care services.

This is done utilizing processes in accordance with hospital standards and department policies.

The purpose is to monitor and evaluate patient status.

Ability to perform medication administration via nebulizer or metered dose inhaler, humidity and aerosol therapy, medical gas administration, incentive spirometry, and respiratory mechanics.

Skills include PEP therapy, pulse oximetry, chest physiotherapy, CPR, mechanical ventilation, intubation, extubating, suctioning, and bronchoscopy assist.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

The ability to be detail-oriented as required in the examination of clinical and numerical data is important.

Basic PC skills are necessary for entering data and performing documentation.

Essential functions and responsibilities include assessing and delivering care / interventions to patients in non-critical care areas.

Care is delivered with consideration of patient age, cultural, and psychosocial factors.

The therapist performs computer entry, verifies physician orders, and documents pertinent clinical information.

Accurate documentation in medical records according to policy is required.

The therapist provides effective care to patients in critical care areas.

They deliver mechanical ventilation, both invasive and non-invasive, while monitoring and measuring patient parameters.

Responsibilities include attending to ventilator maintenance and setting changes, monitoring patient response to setting changes.

Effective communication with the healthcare team is necessary, along with demonstrating professional judgment in response to changing patient or departmental situations.

As indicated, the therapist may delegate and supervise tasks to appropriate staff members.

They acknowledge and demonstrate respect for patients' rights.

Establishing effective relationships with patients, their families, and medical staff utilizing positive customer service skills is fundamental.

Consistent maintenance of communication updates with the department is required.

Supporting departmental and hospital goals by attending in-services, meeting department education standards, and completing variance reports is expected.

Ability to organize, prioritize, and perform skills appropriate for the patient population is critical.

Anticipating patient and departmental needs is required.

Other duties as assigned may include responding to code blues, RIT / CRIT calls, and transports in a timely manner.

Participation in mentoring new personnel is encouraged.

Assisting in monitoring quality and appropriateness of patient care is part of the role.

The therapist actively participates in projects and processes designed to improve patient outcomes.

Independent judgment in planning sequence of operations and making minor decisions is necessary.

Working relationships include coordinating activities with others and leading others in the same work performed.

Collaboration with patients, customers, and other healthcare professionals is essential.
