The Opportunity
Reporting to MassMutual's Head of Investment Accounting Systems Governance Investment Controllership, the Director of Investment Operational Accounting Governance will be a key partner and representative to the operational accounting impacts of the investment operations processes.
This position will lead a team of MassMutual employees and an offshore partner.
Against the backdrop of an increasingly complex general investment account portfolio with diverse asset classes and strategies, this role will build a framework and lead a vision that provides for the effective controls of operational securities accounting.
The Team
This newly created team is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the accounting information received from the Investment Operations securities system.
The team will work closely with critical partners, Investment Operations and Securities Controllership, and will leverage technology and resources to maintain effective processes.
The Director will lead the team to progress the operations model and function.
The Impact
- Lead a team responsible for ensuring effective controls related to securities operational accounting, including daily and monthly reconciliations, data exception analysis, and system upgrades.
- Train new Investment Reconciliation Analysts on daily and monthly tasks and provide ongoing training as needed.
- Establish aggressive KPIs and demonstrate consistent performance in achieving and exceeding goals and objectives.
- Lead the development and implementation of internal process control initiatives to ensure error-free execution of all tasks.
- Conduct thorough research, analysis, and retrieval of data for accurate and timely preparation and maintenance of complex account reconciliations.
- Identify and reconcile differences within established investment and accounting systems using critical analysis skills.
- Collaborate with various areas of the business to determine appropriate remediation.
- Analyze and interpret financial information to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policy and regulations.
- Prepare and maintain complex account records with meticulous attention to detail.
- Collaborate with internal teams to resolve items and address investment-related issues.
- Implement new control processes and assess improvements by evaluating end-to-end impacts to operational securities accounting.
- Partner with teams, including Securities Controllership, Investment Operations, Treasury, and ERM.
- Establish workflows for operational securities accounting.
The Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- 8+ years of related experience
- 1+ years of experience developing and managing onshore and offshore teams
The Ideal Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- Investment operations experience
- Investment accounting systems experience
- CPA preferred
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze financial data sets
- Proven ability to complete high-quality work efficiently
- Able to build and maintain strong working relationships across cross-functional groups
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Intellectual curiosity to continue learning
