Azure Linux is Microsoft’s first party open-source Linux Operating System (OS), used extensively in production for a multitude of Azure services and Microsoft products including a growing number of bare metal scenarios.
You will be part of the team focused on expanding our ability to build and scale bare metal deployments, and you will have the opportunity to be involved in improving every aspect of the Operating System (OS) from firmware & security, to networking, storage, and virtualization stacks.
The team is responsible for delivering solutions across all Azure Linux bare metal customers, including LinkedIn and Nexus.
In Core OS, we are responsible for the Operating Systems that power Azure, Microsoft's Linux OS, the platforms for Windows Client and Xbox, and our Windows Server ecosystem through all of these, we support every one of our cloud businesses and billions of customers around the world.

To deliver on our vision, we are looking for a talented Software Engineer II with a passion for Linux Operating Systems (OS) development and working with hardware.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications :
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and / or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings : Microsoft Cloud Background Check : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire / transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Technical experience / background in Operating Systems development (boot, kernel, drivers, networking, storage, etc).
- Experience with building and debugging bare metal systems with a verity of architectures.
- Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Go, Rust, or PythonOR equivalent experience.
Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $81,900 - $160,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $105,600 - $174,600 per year.
