We are seeking a Junior Level Environmental Planner, Biologist, or Environmental Scientist - Renewables to support our growing energy practice, with a specific emphasis on renewables siting and permitting.

This Environmental Planner, Biologist, or Environmental Scientist - Renewables position will be affiliated with our Irvine Office but can be a remote position.

This is a unique and challenging opportunity to join a dynamic environmental consulting environment. The position will support a variety of projects and clients within our growing CA energy practice, including siting, routing, and environmental permitting for utility-scale and distributed solar, battery energy storage, onshore wind, offshore wind, and electric transmission projects throughout California.

Location : California (Affiliated with Irvine Office, Remote Position Available)

Your Role :

  • Support Project Managers and project teams with the development of site critical issues analyses, due diligence, and siting and routing studies.
  • Develop environmental studies and resource analyses both independently and with a team of subject matter experts.
  • Support Project Managers and senior staff with the preparation and production of land use and resource permit applications for federal, state, and local agencies and jurisdictions.
  • Support Project Managers with the development of public outreach materials such as strategic communication plans, stakeholder databases, fact sheets, newsletters, brochures, and websites.
  • Support Project Managers with project schedules, meeting notes, and tracking of budgets and deliverables.
  • Lead the coordination of project logistics and work with other team members to facilitate the workflow for project deliverables through tasking, draft development, internal reviews, submittal, and responses to comments.
  • Facilitate project meetings, stakeholder outreach, public meetings, and tracking and recording stakeholder contacts.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field such as environmental planning, biology, environmental science, environmental studies, natural resources, or a similar degree or equivalent.
  • 1-3+ years of demonstrated work experience performing similar tasks.
  • Prior environmental consulting experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), including writing IS / MNDs, EIRs, or other CEQA documentation is preferred.
  • Experience with permitting in California preferred, including agencies such as the California Energy Commission, California Public Utilities Commission, California Coastal Commission, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Regional Water Quality Control Boards, etc.
  • Experience with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process is a plus.
  • Ability and interest in working as part of a team in a fast-paced consulting environment with the capability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to prioritize and follow up on pending items.
  • Strong follow-through skills, attention to detail, and work quality.
  • Ability to act independently with task management roles.
  • Ability to work well with all levels of management, outside vendors, and internal and external clients. Sensitivity to confidential information is a must.
  • Demonstrated writing abilities, organizational skills, and competency with basic business computer applications.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required; experience with Microsoft Project and / or ArcGIS is also desired.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for project work.
  • A pre-employment drug screen in compliance with federal regulations is required, along with a physical if needed.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Compensation :

Salary commensurate with experience.

Salary Range : $65,000 - $75,000 yr.

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience and demonstrated work experience in the above role;

skills, certifications, and competencies that align to the specified role; geographic location; and education, as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
