Job Description
Performs a variety of technical procedures in the application and delivery of radiation therapy, as prescribed by the physician
Job Responsibility
- Rotates on a regularly scheduled basis through CT, Simulator and Linacs.
- Positions and instructs patients regarding the procedure(s) in order to obtain the desired results as specified by the physician.
- Provides patient immobilization devices as required.
- Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
- Selects and operates equipment according to the specific procedure involved.
- Reviews processed images to be sure that they are of acceptable diagnostic quality and verifies that they are on target.
- Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination
- Maintains work areas in a clean and orderly fashion.
- Interfaces with computers for the purposes of data acquisition during CT.
- Maintains records on all imaging procedures performed into the ROIS per established policies.
- Interfaces with patient, staff and physicians both within and external to the department to facilitate the improvement of the patient experience in every possible way.
- Work continuously to improve Press Ganey scores via patient satisfaction.
- Provides any necessary services to reduce patient wait time.
- Transports patients when necessary to expedite procedures and or patient satisfaction.
- Performs all radiotherapy treatments according to established procedures as directed by the Radiation Oncologist.
- Assists the physician with set-ups and localization of patients on the simulator.
- Carries out simulation procedures in accordance with the policies and procedures.
- Schedules patients for treatment and keep accurate records of treatments, including notifying patients of any machine delays.
- Ensures the treatment room is stocked with linens and appropriate supplies; alert the Chief Therapist to low supplies.
- Alerts proper medical personnel to any problems the patient is having with treatment or reactions.
- Observes department Radiation safety procedures to maintain occupational exposures as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA).
- Alerts the Chief Therapist or appropriate personnel of any equipment problems or failures and document in log book.
- Maintains the proper inventory of all supplies necessary for the assigned modality (Maintains the security of all oral and IV contrast).
- Performs all designated Quality Control and Electro-Mechanical checks at specified frequencies, including A.M Q.A and filling in logbook.
- Provides on the job instructions to other therapists.
- Performs other related duties as necessary (E.g mixing of oral contrast).
- Transfers images digitally to appropriate workstations on an as needed basis to expedite treatment planning.
- Is familiar with the care and operation of the Radiation Oncology Information System.
- Is familiar with the care and operation of the On Board Imaging System
- Performs related duties as required.

Job Qualification
- Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy program, required.
- New York State Department of Health licensure as a Radiologic Technologist in radiation therapy, required.
- Registered by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) in radiation therapy, required.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience as a Radiation Therapist, required.
