Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Metropolitan Office Chief, within District 10 Division of Transportation Planning the incumbent is an interdisciplinary team member at full journey person level.

Incumbent will work independently and / or part of a team to perform difficult and complex planning work to plan, develop, organize, and direct activities which integrate various social, economic, environmental, transportation, and land use, factors to support implementation of a balanced, multimodal State transportation program.

The incumbent will plan, develop, administer, evaluate, and monitor transportation plans, programs, and projects in the transportation planning process and may serve in lead capacity.

This may include but not limited to mass transit / multimodal planning, community planning, state planning, freight planning, active transportation, local development review, regional planning and climate change.

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Associate Transportation Planner Exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.

g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and / or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.

Working Conditions

Position is located in Stockton, San Joaquin County.

Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.

While at their base of operation, employee will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksite with minimal notification if an urgent need arises.

The selected candidate may be required to conduct business travel on behalf of the Department or commute to the headquartered location.

Employees may be required to work outside to perform project field and site reviews during varying seasonal conditions following Caltrans Safety Requirements.

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy.

Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises.

The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions.

All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Special Requirements

Occasional travel may be required. Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.
