About The Role

You will be a leader of the Insomnia engineering team. This team is responsible for the Open Source and Enterprise versions of Insomnia, the foundational technology for our product offerings.

As a Software Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading, coaching, and mentoring the team on new features and tooling for Insomnia to support our customers worldwide.

Insomnia is a popular API development platform that includes an API client, API designer, API testing and more, that millions of developers around the world use to build digital products across both Top Global 2000 organizations, and individual developers at smaller organizations.

What You'll Do

  • Work with product managers, engineers, and product designers to create meaningful product experiences.
  • Build new features and improve upon existing ones.
  • Engage with the Insomnia open source community.
  • Hire, mentor, and maintain healthy Engineering teams who value collaboration and innovation.
  • Manage shift scheduling, measuring key performance indicators (KPIs), and training, assure high-quality work and SLA.
  • Provide solid technical expertise for Linux systems troubleshooting, and profiling, experience with debugging tools and complex SaaS applications.
  • Demonstrate leadership experience displaying the ability to organize and prioritize complex problem resolution and bug fixes, debugging distributed services.
  • Organize and manage your teams to fit constructively into the org as a whole and help the company succeed.
  • Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
  • Give constructive feedback to Engineers, conduct 1 : 1s, address interpersonal issues, and conduct reviews.
  • Suggest Engineering guidelines, principles, and processes to improve the Engineering org.
  • Assure high-quality work and SLA adherence from the entire Engineering org.

What You'll Bring

  • 2+ years of Engineering management experience.
  • Experience managing remote teams.
  • Experience conducting reviews, hiring, and compensation.
  • Demonstrated leadership of Engineering teams.
  • Proven customer relationship skill sets (internal and external customers).
  • On-premise, cloud, and hybrid product background.
  • Experience working on an infrastructure product line.
  • Strong proficiency for testing and an absolute distaste for unscalable code.
  • At least 4 years of experience working with relational databases like PostgreSQL.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with cloud infrastructure (like AWS, Azure or GCP).
  • Strong understanding of networking protocols and transports (HTTP, GraphQL, TCP, WebSockets, SSE).
  • The ability to validate your work with qualitative or quantitative data.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
