The City of Worcester seeks qualified applicants for the position of Community Branch Services Library Assistant (Librarian Grade 2) for the Worcester Public Library.
- Under the direction of the Deputy Director of Adult Services, the position assists with the daily operations of assigned branch libraries;
- coordinates and performs circulation activities; provides exemplary customer service to patrons; acts as a liaison with the Main Library Circulation Department and C / W MARS;
and supervises operations in the Community Branch Services Supervisor's absence. Work will include evenings, weekends and assignments in other departments, locations and Mobile services vehicle.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS :
- Assist with the daily operations of the assigned branch libraries
- Coordinate and perform all circulation activities
- Train staff in circulation functions
- Act as a liaison with the Main Library Circulation Department and with C / W MARS
- Organize and perform the holds process and functions
- Assist with readers advisory and reference services, including patron assistance
- Provide exemplary customer service
- Represent the library in the neighborhood branches; assist with developing and maintaining awareness of neighborhood library needs
- Collect, record, and report appropriate statistics monthly
- Supervise the daily operations of assigned branch libraries in absence of the Community Branch Services Supervisor
- Act as person in charge in the absence of the branch supervisor
- Participate in interviews, supervise, train, schedule and evaluate branch volunteers
- Interpret library services and policies to patrons in a clear and courteous manner
- Contribute to creating an environment orientated to trust, open communication, creative thinking, and cohesive team effort
- Participate in staff development and training opportunities
- Work at various locations within the library system, including mobile library services
- Perform other duties, as assigned, consistent with the functions of the work unit and level of responsibilities
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
- Excellent organizational skills, and the ability to plan and prioritize work effectively to ensure completion of work
- Ability to resolve conflicts with staff and patrons
- Ability to provide information and guidance clearly, courteously and pleasantly to patrons
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, which may include community outreach
- The ability to communicate with professional and paraprofessional staff about concepts, ideas, and requirements
- High level of professionalism and commitment to the organization
- Ability to learn new skills in a fast-paced, changing environment
- Ability to create positive working relationships with a diverse staff
- Ability to be flexible and to easily handle varying work assignments
- Ability to learn and use library technologies
- Ability to use Microsoft Office
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Knowledge of the principles and correct usage of the English language including grammar, punctuation, and spelling
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One (1) year of community public service work, such as library, day care center, bookstore, or equivalent
- Ability to successfully pass CORI / SORI
- Reliable transportation to travel between required locations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
- One (1) year of supervisory experience in a youth setting
- One (1) year of customer service experience
SALARY RANGE : $19.26 - $23.10 hourly, full-time, excellent benefits package.
