The Senior Business Analyst will play a key role in the Emerging Technology Office within the Information Technology (IT) department located onsite at Burns & McDonnell’s World Headquarters office in Kansas City, Missouri.
This individual will be tasked with analyzing new technology options, documenting needs from both business and IT stakeholders, and leading the rapid prototyping and piloting of new technology through Agile processes.
The Senior Business Analyst is an expert communicator, detailed planner, and has strong problem-solving skills. This is a business-facing and technology-facing role, requiring excellent communication and organization to create alignment amongst multiple business practices.
Develop an understanding of new technology to curate content for Burns & McDonnell’s consolidated tech radar for consumption across the organization.
Serve as technical advisor, providing senior level input, evaluation, and guidance on emerging technology options.
Collaborate with internal and external partners to understand problems and recommend best possible solutions.
Determine scope of requests and identify possible pilot iterations to unlock greatest client value.
Prioritize and sequence Emerging Technology’s pilot and prototyping backlog with an understanding of dependencies related to the broader Information Technology roadmap.
Drive rapid prototyping, onboarding, and communication efforts for piloting new technologies with multiple internal business and IT groups, as well as external vendors.
Ensure pilots stay on track towards deliverable commitments, occasionally completing trade-off analysis to influence product decisions.
Communicate status of technology evaluation and piloting with stakeholders and others throughout IT and the broader Burns & McDonnell organization.
Own continuous improvement of evaluation and piloting process for future technology evaluations through regular retrospectives.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum 8 years technical business analysis experience
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
Knowledge of agile development methodology and practices
Understanding of technical terminology, preferably experience in generative AI and other emerging technologies.
Strong facilitation skills for meetings and stakeholder workshops
Project management experience preferred
Experience with Azure DevOps or other agile software a plus
