Job Description

OUR MISSION

Imagine building a better healthcare journey for cancer patients, where individuals and their loved ones feel seen, supported, and heard by their care team both in and out of the clinic.

Where fast access to high-quality care is the norm, not the exception. Where patients have access to a care navigator to guide them through their diagnosis and trusted support all along the way.

At Thyme Care, we share a passion for transforming the cancer care experience not just for patients but also for their caregivers and loved ones, as well as those delivering and paying for their care.

Today, Thyme Care is known predominantly as a cancer care navigation company enabling value-based cancer care; in the next few years, we will become a nationally recognized technology-driven and provider-centric care delivery model, reshaping the landscape of cancer care access, delivery, and experience.

Our commitment runs deep we're not satisfied with the status quo but determined to redefine it.

To make this happen, we're building a diverse team of problem solvers and critical thinkers to drive innovation and shape the future of healthcare.

If you share our vision and want to be part of something truly meaningful, we want to hear from you. Together, we can revolutionize cancer care and make a difference that lasts a lifetime.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As the VP of Legal & Compliance, you will report to our CEO, and lead the legal and compliance functions of the organization.

You'll play a crucial role in supporting growth by partnering with external-facing teams (payer, provider, strategic partnerships) and providing strategic internal legal guidance.

You will handle complex transactions, ensure compliance, and contribute to the development and execution of the company's strategy.

In this role, you will be an integral member of Thyme's Care's leadership team, working closely with other functional leaders to drive Thyme Care's overall success.

  • Grow and lead the legal and compliance organization.
  • Partner with external teams to handle complex transactions and strategic partnerships.
  • Provide legal guidance on compliance, risk management, and data strategy.
  • Advise the Product, Clinical and People teams on the legal implications of new programs.
  • Evaluate and manage outside counsel, ensuring the right expertise is in place.
  • Become a trusted advisor to the executive team and Board of Directors.

WHAT YOU'VE DONE

  • Reviewed, negotiated, and finalized various agreements, including payer contracts, partnerships, NDAs, and business associate agreements.
  • Evaluated and engaged external legal experts to support business growth.
  • Developed a deep understanding of the business model and led complex transactions with payers and providers.
  • Establish yourself as a key leadership team member, identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Built and developed a legal team, implemented a compliance program, and established legal processes that enable efficient deal flow and strategic advice delivery.

WHAT LEADS TO SUCCESS

Domain expertise. You have a JD and are admitted to practice law. You've been practicing for at least 10 years, with time in both law firm and in-house settings.

You've spent the bulk of your legal career supporting or leading value and risk-based contracting, and payer transactions in the healthcare space and have experienced the pace and growth of a startup.

You also know how to navigate risk and regulation and assess and manage risk to guide the business to hit its goals and advance its mission.

You understand highly complex regulatory environments and compliance in the healthcare industry and what it takes for a startup to be successful (HIPAA, fraud & abuse laws, governance, IP, transactions, security, employment, etc).

Bonus points if you have worked in oncology.

Comfort with ambiguity. You have a proven track record of success within scaling businesses, fast-paced environments, and startups.

You understand that rapid changes to the business, strategy, organization, and priorities is par for the course.

Effective collaborator . You are a great listener, build rapport and strong working relationships with senior leaders, colleagues, investors, and customers to drive business outcomes.

You provide clear, succinct, creative and principled legal advice.

  • Strong people management . You have led a team in the past and have coached and developed them into A-players. You have also experienced what it's like to scale a function and company rapidly.
  • Executes well . You are biased to action, process driven, and get things done. You account for unknowns and recover from setbacks well.

You will work independently, with minimal supervision, and feel comfortable taking ownership and responsibility for completing projects.

A patient first approach . You're personally motivated by our mission and by what we are building. You are empathetic and desire to understand problems and help people solve them, especially this one.
